Is the #2 up for grabs?

Nadal blowing out at the earliest stage on clay for donkeys years seems to have re-opened the door for Federer to grab #2 before Roland Garros.

Long way to go of course, and he could lose right here with Gasquet, but it could make the RG draw very interesting.

What chance a Djokovic/Nadal semi?

know what happened, happened and couldn't have happened any other way.

Rafa may end up regretting his 'tanking' in Madrid: there's a real risk now that he'll lose his #2 ranking and seeding at the Slams.

The Rome draw is very favorable for Fed (only Monfils and Tipsy on his path to the semis), whereas both Rafa (Raonic and Berdych) and Djokovic (Monaco and Del Potro) may face some tough opposition.

Generally I believe the time that the "big 4" are claiming all the semi-final places in Slams will soon be over.

LOL! Great to read you here prostaff! Let's be clear. Nadal's tanking in Madrid is the least obvious. I can't quite make up my mind from what I saw.

Yes I agree. This is what I was saying on V2 to those who said that this era is teh greatest and that they coudl not see any great youngsters on the horizon.

Well, they'll find out soon.

For the Murray fans time is really precious now. If Murray doesn't win a slam this year, it will become harder and harder for him as he seems to plateau more than any other top players.

Going back to RG #2 seeding:

Obviously that could help Fed. If he gets the #2 seed, if Nadal and Nole are drawn in the same half, and if Nole beats Rafa, then Roger could actually have a shot at winning here again.

However, I have to say that there is a part of me that would not want that to happen. There is a part of me somewhere deep down that is still hoping that one day Fed will beat Rafa at RG. Even though I know that will not happen.

As a Rafa fan not sure if I'd prefer him to have Djokovic or Federer in the semis. Federer is on better form, but Rafa's record against Federer is slight better.
So I'm not sure.

The odds of Federer beating Rafa on clay are almost nonexistent. Federer played very well at the AO the whole tournament - including the match against Rafa - and it was still not close to enough. He just does not match up well against him.

On the other hand, Nole matches up really well against Rafa. I would not read too much into their MC match. I think Nole is more likely than Rafa to get upset early but once they both get that far, I would give him the edge, or in any event no worse than 50/50 chance.

Disagree there again. Yes Nadal won most of their matches there but many were very close....including last year FO final.

Ok, let's say I was exaggerating somewhat. But the context was the question of whether Rafa would rather see Roger or Nole in his half. I see that one as pretty black-an-white.

Same here. That's exactly why we have had Djoko on Fed's side for 12 slams out of 12!
