Another slightly more serious question!

I've not put this on the Liverpool board as I don't want to it to turn into a big argument or it to appear like I'm wumming.

But a quite a few years ago, Gerrard was meant to be moving to Chelsea. Can anyone remember how close he came to moving, or whether it was just rumours?

I've heard several rumours about why he didn't leave but was wondering what other people have heard/read?

Why would t turn into an argument? He admitted himself in his book that he considered it. Then after Istanbul he decided he wanted to stay, but the club dragged their heels over offering a new contract so he wondered if they were considering selling him after all.

He was going to move until he received death threats. Then he decided to stay. Well, that is what us United fans believe.

Gerrard's side of the story was that he didn't want to leave, but felt that he was no longer wanted by Parry/Rafa. Not sure which is the true story.

What is certain is that Gerrard planned to leave and he informed the club of his intentions. He also released a statement that he was leaving and that it was a tough decision. He obviously then changed his mind.

This is a pointless and old news. I dont really see or care.
Why is this on a United board? It had nothing to do with us then and it has nothing to do with us now.

I meant more of an argument into United v Pool, then someone would mention Rooney wanting to leave, and I was just after an answer, but thanks

As I recall it was how they entered the negotiations that upset him. He thought that they should have made him a firm offer in terms of salary, but instead they asked him how much he wanted/what he thought he was worth. A little bit of arrogance showing through there for me. Which was further emphasised when having signed the new contract he set that the fans had understandably being upset at the prospect of losing their best player. To be fair, he was LFC's best player at the time - but no need to big yourself up like that.

Here is a decent article on Gerrard revealing that he wanted to leave:
