I don't get it.

The driver that about 90% of the users on here most likely sleep with a poster of has just won a race.

The first thing I see? Cheap shots at his team-mate.

I've never known one driver attract so much hatred from F1 fans.

What exactly did he do to deserve it?

Tall, there aren't THAT many anti-Button posts, think you may be over egging it a bit.

However let me say how I see it.

I like Jenson, really nice bloke but to me not what I call a top-notch driver. I thought he was over-hyped by the British media when he first entered F1 with Williams in 2000. He was undoubtedly talented, but whether or not it was poor equipment or not being talented enough he never seemed to make any real progress.
But here is the bit that gets me, when he is doing well he is ok but when HE isn't it ALWAYS seems to be someone else's fault. The standard one these days is 'lack of grip' either understeer or oversteer. Yesterday he was saying it is impossible that he is the only one not able to work his tyres.

Lots of people say that LH moans all the but in all honesty never as much as JB. And I know I'll get a slating for saying this but he always seems to have that big smile, and in a joking around mood even when he is doing badly. Gives me the impression that he is more worried about his media image than being serious about the reasons for his performance.

You don't see SV MS or FA laughing and joking with the media when things don't go their way. They act seriously and get on with the job. Maybe this attitude is why Briatorre called him a 'lazy playboy' when replacing him at Renault with a certain FA.

Yeah, ok, maybe I am exaggerating a bit.

It just seems like whenever Hamilton has a good race and Button has a bad one, there always has to be someone who wants to have a dig at Button.

Reading the BBC's report on the race, I saw nearly 150 comments and I counted at least 30 from one user who seemed adamant on taking shots at Button. Clearly a Hamilton fan yet almost never mentioned him.

"when he is doing well he is ok but when HE isn't it ALWAYS seems to be someone else's fault."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This was the exact same attitude most people on here seemed to have last year when Button was consistently finishing on the podium while Hamilton was colliding with Massa at every other corner. I'm not saying Button is squeaky clean in this respect, but he's neither is he the only driver who does this.

"he always seems to have that big smile, and in a joking around mood even when he is doing badly. Gives me the impression that he is more worried about his media image than being serious about the reasons for his performance."

I can see what your getting at but I always got the impression that this meant he has the ability to stay positive even when things are going wrong. Rather than be miserable about a bad race, why not just shrug it off and think "ok, something went wrong. Never mind, let's track down what it is and fix it for the next race".

Maybe I am a bit biased towards Button, but I just feel like there are people out there who live for shooting him down at every oppurtunity, for no real reason other than he's not Lewis Hamilton.

IMO, I think we have seen too many drivers over the years moaning about the car, the weather, the tyres, the air temp etc. etc. I think it makes a change for someone to try and remain upbeat. I'm not a huge Button fan but his luck hasn't been great this year. I was nice to hear him say that everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong after Malaysia. This was compared to Vettel in the same race calling drivers idiots for his mistakes.

Anyway, I don't know what the problem was yesterday but there must have been something very wrong with the car for Button to be so slow and for it to chew through its tyres so easily. Surely the onboard telemetry will have shown where Jenson was slower than Lewis so I'd have thought the engineers (being wizards and all) would have known what the problem was and thought of a solution. What do I know though....?

As I say I like the guy. If someone said there was a do at the local pub and all the F1 drivers are gonna be their, you would prefer to have a chat with JB than most. I also get the feeling he would be surrounded by women more than some.
I think he likes to be centre of attention, whereas others are there to do a job and seem to take it more seriously.
I have tried not to mention anyone else in this reply so as not to make people think I am a fanboy.

Were his tyres chewed yesterday or did he change them 2nd time because the balance didn't seem right? I didn't notice the condition of the old ones. However IF he had said they had gone, why would you replace the less durable super-softs with the same, and not go back to the more durable softs? The performance diff. was not that great.

I don't get – why anybody rates Button at all.

12 years in F1 and he hasn't done very much has he.

He was a nobody until the Brawn car. Won 6 of the first 7 races and then panicked.

Teamed up with Hamilton and then suddenly people had at last a brit that they were comfortable with. What a tactical genius, he would destroy Hamilton with his smooth style and superior tyre management. Result = 2010 Hamilton beat him, 2011 they both won the same number of races.

Button is lazy and prefers to let others hand him his races on a plate.

The reason is because the bbc, brundle, coulthard and co have forced his abilities down peoples throats whilst taking their snide little digs at hamilton. Brundle still hasn't forgiven hamilton for not picking him as a manager.

What also annoys people is that when he makesa mistakes, there arew people falling over themselves making excuses for him. The same people slate everyone else.

So whilst I do not have any ill feeling for him, I can understand why people can't wait to stick a knife inm

You may argue that JB didn't do the hyping up but it is clear he started believing the hype.
