WIMBLEDON MENS FINAL THREAD

MURRAY vs FEDERER

No matter who wins, history will be made in Sunday's Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

The third-seeded Federer is looking to enhance his case for the undisputed title of "Greatest of All-Time," while No. 4 Murray is looking to become the first Brit to claim the Wimbledon crown since Fred Perry in 1936.

If Federer wins, he will push his Grand Slam singles record to 17, tie Pete Sampras for the most Wimbledon titles ever (seven) and reclaim his spot as the world's No. 1 player. That would also tie him with Sampras for most weeks (286) at the top of the rankings.

On the other hand, if Murray wins, he will reach immortal status in Great Britain, cementing his legacy as one of the top athletes in the nation's rich sporting history.

In Summary

Federer wins 4th set 6-4 for 7th title

Federer wins third set 6-3 in 49 mins

Federer wins second set 7-5 in 54 mins

Murray wins first set 6-4 in 57 mins

hehe Nan Bread. As you already know I had written both off after Paris, which in hindsight was probably a silly thing to do as we move onto the other surfaces.

As much as I am gutted for Andy I am delighted for Feds who keeps on rewritting the record books. He was magic today.

i had written both off as well but this shows you that anything can happen in tennis and it is such a great sport

Hi guys! I am happy Fed won (as I had predicted before Wimby and friendly bet on along with an exit of Nadal at R2 or 3 - thinking Kohli was most likely to get him out but positively surprised Rosol did it) so this Wimbledon made me ecstatic on three different days (Nadal's loss obviously, Fed's win in SF and today).

I was also quite happy for Andy to make the final as he deserved it for all the fighting spirit he showed and it was nice that he ended a 74 year drought of a Brit in a Wimbledon final. Also, tbh, I figured it would increase Fed's chance of winning, even though Tsonga didn't really show any striking quality but he is much more unpredictable... Anyways, the Andy of today played at a really high level and more importantly never gave up so he was miles better than in any previous GS final and should leave the tournament head high and like his dunces for the Olympics, even though Fed is also hungry for it...

Going back to Fed, what an amazing accomplishment! Not only he increases his total number of slams to 17 (but I think a lot of people thought he could do it) but more importantly he is matching and passing the only records Sampras had left on him which I think is fair as Fed is the best grass court player ever. Also, this return to number one when the three others of the top four are at their peak in terms of tennis level and physical level, is all the more fabulous! Plus, the top three have now each one slam and each on their best surface, which is good. Murray is not too far and should he win the USO he would show he belongs in the top four (and not just be the best of the rest). It would be interesting to see on what half of the draw he is as now it seems that Fed and Nole will be number one and two till then (maybe the order will change but the duo will be on opposite sides)... Exciting times ahead!

Last but not least, IMHO, Fed has proved now to even his most avid detractors that he is the GOAT!

Can't wait for the US Open now!!! Could we see another Murray vs Federer final?

That would be nice! And I wouldn't mind Murray winning that one! We just need RAF on Fed's half of the draw then and Fed to beat Nadal in SF, tough but definitely doable...
