Breaking Even with Andy Carroll

If todays latest rumours are to be believed then Liverpool could well break even on Andy Carroll.

According to reports, Liverpool have slapped a £20 million price tag on Andy Carroll. This would result in a £15 million loss on a player who has only been at LFC since Last January.

Now the knowledgeable fans out there know that when Liverpool sold Torres and purchased Carroll, we ended up with £15 million cash.

According to John Henry "The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll," Henry said, explaining that Liverpool wanted Carroll, plus £15m, to replace Torres

So effectivley, though we have lost 15 million on Carroll, we were already up 15 from the original deal.

Smart move by the owners if Liverpool can fetch 20 million and break even on a player that many thought was a transfer knightmare

Henry already did. And Werner.

Are you really that dumb fella or are you having me on?

Chelsea paid LFC £50M for Torres - because they were prepared to pay that much for him. LFC could have said, thanks, we'll pass on Carroll ta Newcastle & kept the cash.

Are you seriously trying to tell me that couldn't have happened? If so why not?

He was asked if he would send him out on loan. He said it is something he would look at.

No, he didn't say that at all. That's the way BBC reported it. If you actually watched the press conference he was asked in general about loans and he said if it benefits the club, we'd have to look at it.

This was way after he was asked about Carroll and AC Milan, in which he responded, Carroll will always have interest as he's a good player and that he'd already had a good talk with Carroll on the phone.

asses goddamit asses!

A-ha, a humurous double entendre that includes both Carroll's description of being a donkey, and your love of the male rear end

Well played TOOR, well played.

The OP is a moron - he's got it all wrong. By letting Torres go and signing AC, you also saved yourself another 50k per week in wages. And you probably saved some money in tax liabilities too.

Add another 5 million to your figures Metro - you scousers dont know how good youve got it. Tut tut, must do better next time.

I did watch it, and the moment he said that, it was clear what was going to happen. He was asked directly about that, all he had to say was there was no way Carroll would be going on loan anywhere and he had a big part to play with us. He didn't. Do you think he would have replied the way he did if they'd asked it in relation to Agger or Suarez or Lucas?

Why do you think he didn't say it? Obviously because he is not 100% certain he will be at the club come the new season. He hasn't assessed him yet, for a start.

The day BR got the job you can guarantee he was going through our team and DVD's from last year with a fine tooth comb. That's the way he does things. He'll have a pretty decent idea of the players he wants and doesn't want, even before he has seen them train. Of course he isn't going to say that Carroll or anyone else doesn't have a future. He can certainly say they won't be sold though as he would have done for most of the squad. Like I say, we'll have to wait and see how this pans out, but I'd put a large chunk of money of Carroll not being with us come the start of the season. I just hope it isn't a loan deal.

....

How does that make me wrong. If you're going to talk about wage differences then we may as well throw in bonuses, benefits and car parking spaces

And you have the audacity to call me a moron.
