Redknapp's team...minus the two best player

I watched the game in the pub. Before hand I summed up our chances with an unplanned epiphany "It's just last year's team, minus Modric and Adebayor".

And to be fair, that's what it was! Reading posts below this one, there are lots of "I've seen this time and time again", "same old Spurs", "I'm sick of the same old thing".

It's our first game and I thought we played alright, but my neutralk mate sat next to me rightly said "You'll never score". Well one Defoe goal shut him up, but the pattern of play seemed to be a continuation of last season. We are literally the same as before but without our best midfielder and striker!

Good God, it is mentaL that this has been allowed to happen, that is why I still can't (and won't) judge AVB, as he is basically playing Redknapp's team, minus the two most effective players!

I thought we did well today, considering, but if Levy doesn't wake up and smell the coffee then we are in for a mid-table finish.

I never in my wildest dreams imagined that Levy would let the season begin and be in this situation. No doubt we will get a letter to supporters detailing how we were in for a number of targets blah blah blah...

I think, fair play to Andre for playing the cards Levy has dealt him as well as he has!

Can any of you really knowledgeable people on here clue me in? I've been off site for a while, ... following Olympics. Brazil should neva have lost that final BTW.

Where's ADE? Didn't we buy him?
Who's coming in place of Modric?
What's happened to Dawson?
Is today's the best midfield and back four we can muster?
Are we destined to wind up lower than Fulham this year .... like Lawro's predicting??

Spurcat full of his own self importance? I never got that impression at all. He just wanted to talk football and the childish wumming just pi**ed him off. I feel the same a bit. This sight is 80% wumming and its a joke that those threads get far more comments than real football talk.

I thought it was a good performance, good tactics, good work ethic, just - as JPB says - Lennon aside there was a lack of impact by the wide players. BAE was our weakest link, Gallas was immense.

Didn't think we missed Modric at all really, unlike the start of last season.

We were unlucky hitting the woodwork twice and on another day they could have had a player sent off.

The article is right in that it's largely last year's team and so the weaker parts of our game haven't been rectified yet - taken advantage of too easily at the back and a lack of cutting edge (not from Defoe yesterday but the other attacking players)

Spurcat is happily chatting away about football only at the 'other' site

What? Brazil played like a bunch of not-very-good individuals who had barely played together before, Mexico played as a well-drilled TEAM and fully deserved to win. For Brazil Hulk was alright when he came on, and Marcelo was amazing but leaves the LB position horribly exposed.
