the European Championships are high profile (do the South Americans have an equivalent?).

-----------

Yes. Every continent has its championship. Copa America, African nations, Asian cup, Antarctic all in etc

Maybe i've underestimated the Copa America as a competition for the likes of Messi to achieve success in?

posted on 23/3/13

It seems you were more unaware of it rather than underestimating it.

Looking at 2001 for example, when Columbia won the competition, they weren't even at the World Cup in 2002. Similarly Honduras (not in Japan/Korea 2002) beat Brazil in the 1/4's.

Messi is at a level of his own. Maradonna may have won the WC but the team he was in was exceptional. I don't see internationals being the bench mark for a players greatness. Yes, it contributes but the overall game of Messi for example is at a level the like of which I've never seen.

What rubbish...far from great...he won it just as he dd in Napoli.......twice.

And btw, check to see how long before and since Napoli had or have won serie A?

What's rubbish?

I said His Argie team was great? Is that rubbish?

International success isn't aimed barometer. Is that rubbish?

What or who do you a refer to as far from great? Messi? Messi is indeed great.

Let me know what u think is rubbish

Oh did you forget Napoli, or did you only read what suits.

Im not doubting maradonna was a great player. I've said nothing that would suggest otherwise. I'm not picking or choosing facts. The post of mine that you quoted simply said that just because he won a WC doesn't mean he's the better player. There's nothing wrong or inaccurate in anything I've said so why you got such an issue? Feel free to tell me why you disagree but at least make an argument instead of just trying to discredit my opinion without making a counter point.
