Recovery

After a workout how sore do you get and how long does it take for the pain to go?

After a month out (bar cardio) I did my first upper-body workout on Monday. It was Chest and Back so all pushups/pullups and my upper arms and chest have been really sore since.

I also noticed my legs hurting with the increased cardio and being back at Uni means I walk up and down for buses etc, in particular my shins were sore?

My diet hasnt changed, Im still getting a lot of protein every day. Maybe not enough calories?

Any advice would be helpful.

It's probably not about diet.

If you haven't worked out in a while, the DOMs are inevitably going to be worse when you return.

As your body adapts, the effect of said soreness will begin to decrease.

If your shins are hurting, it may be shin splints - might need to take it easy for a bit.

The shins are getting better, Ive had the same problem for the last couple of years, when term starts and Im travelling I do a lot of power-walking so Im sore about a month.

Stupid elbow injury has set me right back, I did 5 cardio days and 2 ab days every week for the last 4 weeks. Ive dropped weight but it sucks losing my rep count

I hope so.

I did my second upper-body workout tonight, shoulders triceps and biceps. The stretching was rough at the start but once I got into the actual workout I was ok, guess I will know better tomorrow.
