What a difference a year makes...

...Or does it?

12 months ago I posted an article on 606 which attracted a lot of interest and some strong criticism. I am told 606 closes today so I thought it an apropriate way to introduce some continuity by posting that article in the hope that people who contributed to it originally might have an opinion now and might care to share it.

A celebration of mediocrity.

The final leader board says everything about the controversial changes to the Wentworth course. Plodders and also rans which always turn-up when the organisers become obsessed whith preventing the event being won by 18 under par which Caring had stated. Plodders don't tend to shoot 18 under par.

Interesting to see that one of the poorer winners of the Open made a rare appearance on the first page of the leaderboard. He rarely features in a low scoring contest but when it comes to poking it down the fairway, scrambling onto the green and holing the odd putt he can feature.

So if Caring, the owner of the course, and BMW wish their event to be a celebration of mediocrity they have achieved their aim.

12 months on I am watching the PGA from Wentworth while I prepare this post and I take this opportunity to remind people who criticised this article for my suggesting Simon Khan was not worthy of having his name on this wonderful and historic trophy which he did by shading Luke Donald. Today, when Donald has finished a marvelous 12 months by shooting a 64, 12 shots better than Khan, on a very tough day for golf and currently stands 2 in the World to Khans 182 I would ask if the people who felt Khan was worthy are still of the same opinion.

To the site moderator. One of the problems with BBC606 was the big brother attitude of the moderators. I would ask these moderators to learn from the mistakes made by the BBC mods, treat contributors as adults which we all are and if someone wants to mke a fool of themselves with an injudicious comment then let them and allow the comment to stay on the thread as silent testimony to the posters stupidity!

Lady Falkender came to prominence after Mr Wilson’s abrupt resignation as prime minister in 1976, when there were claims she wrote the first draft of his resignation honours list.

The document, which was known as the ‘lavender list’ because it was written on lavender-coloured paper, included the names of actors and several businessmen.
