Will we ever learn to play spin? Our tactic seems to be just block and wait to get out.
Only Cook and KP (our only world class batsmen) are prepared to actually try and score runs. Once again we're relying on them to dig us out of a massive hole.
It's just really disappointing. Every year or two we head to the sub-continent, get completely outplayed then learn nothing for the next year.
Block, block, block, out.

Fatboy should be in England right now serving at his local chippy.

Monty is nothing more than a pie chucker on those slow Indian tracks. His record is poor in India and he only does well when there is some pace on the wicket to get wickets. In UAE there was pace and he did well, in England there is pace and bounce and he did well but in West Indies its slow and he struggled, in SL its slow and he struggled and the same applies to India. Monty does not get the rev's and on a slow indian track and he will look one dimensional.

if that's true then why's he on tour ?
are there not 2 bowlers in England who can make the ball spin ?

Also no-one is really mentioning the toss. It plays a huge part in sub continent. Bat first and your have twice more chance of victory than your opposition.

maybe, but England would still have wanted 2 spinners if they batted first.

Yeah I agree.
Ps, although I take kashs point about montys record, the Indian spinners aren't of the calibre of Ajmal. Ashwin is good alright, but nothing compared to the threat of previous years with Kumble and harby. The Indian 2nd spinner is hardly Shane warne is he, and monty can't be any worse.
With England it's all in their mind. They had mental issues with Rehman last year too- another average bowler.

I would like to see us get a specialist batting coach to teach us about these conditions. Also, ensure a lot of ECB performance and Lions squads visit the sub continent ongoing - Which they may now do.

yorkie, unforunately in past couple of years even the best have struggled in spinning pitches. the latest i remember was when aus and SA lost by an innings. cant blame england cause if its turning like what we saw, its hard to believe anything could have helped them.
One thing i dont understand is why is this ;logic not used. in pacy wickets like england and SA u have more pacers and just 1 spinner, but in subcontinent foreign teams are scared to use more than 1 spinner.
Gd spin bowling is enough to test indian batsman and if jeetan patel found success, why cant a panesar or any other spinner find?

Should have played Panasar, but I, just the management would have gone with the team chosen.
We are scared to use too many spinners. Not sure why.
You may be right about this pitch, but I have seen us too many times fall apart in sub continent conditions.

lets see how kp and cook do, cause if each score a 100 then u might be saved. but pressure will be on them right now.

Yeah. I will be up in four hours to put myself through it again.
