Blackburn Rovers v Huddersfield Town

Blackburn Rovers v Huddersfield Town

Tuesday 16 April 2013 at 7.45pm, Ewood Park, Blackburn.

“The euphoria of winning is fantastic, but we need to refocus very quickly ahead of Blackburn."
Mark Robins (htafc.com)

The Manager

After the departure of Michael Appleton, Blackburn Rovers are currently coached by caretaker manager, Gary Bowyer. Bowyer recently back from a trip to India, asked the owners of Rovers, to clarify his position, he received a 'positive outcome', he is charge for the next five games. Looks like Blackburn Rovers will have a new manager next season then. The merry-go-round of managerial football will no doubt provide the solution. Gary Bowyer's only real tenure as a player was for Rotherham United, making 38 appearances, before retiring due to injury. After retiring as a player, he became a youth coach for Blackburn Rovers and in 2009, he became Reserve Team manager for the Riversiders. This is Bowyer's second stint as caretaker manager, after the sackings of Henning Berg and Michael Appleton.

The Opposition

Well, what can be said of Blackburn Rovers? They were founder members of the Football League in 1888. Their history is not too disimilar to Town's, having glory in the early 1920's and with FA Cup success too. In 1928, Blackburn Rovers were 3-1 victors against Huddersfield Town, but the FA Cup win was their last major trophy for nearly 70 years. However, they have won the FA Cup a total of six times.

The listing below, is pretty impressive for our Lancastrian neighbours.

Not until Jack Walker pumped millions in to Blackburn Rovers, did they have success in modern times. The Premiership title, as it was newly formed, being the first trophy since that win over the Terriers, all those years ago. Unfortunately the mid 20th century years were pretty non eventual for the Riversiders and I am sure the Rovers fans will agree, not worth noting.

Two record figures payouts of eight million pounds, for Andy Cole and Jordan Rhodes, have been made.
£8m to Manchester United for Andrew Cole in December 2001 and £8m to Huddersfield Town for Jordan Rhodes in August 2012. Rovers have also received a bumper sum for Roque Santa Cruz, a figure of £18m was settled in June 2009, where he ventured to Manchester City.

Jordan Rhodes will no doubt spark heated debates. Was it right to let him go, even though he did want to leave? Would Town's league position be higher than the current one? Will the transfer fee Town received for Rhodes be absorbed in to the costings of running Huddersfield Town, or will Hoyle use it at a later date? Is Jordan really happy with his transfer to Blackburn Rovers? He is banging the goals in for Rovers! I bid him good luck with his future, even tough I was very disappointed to see him go, especially in hindsight of our shoddy shower of strikers we currently have, NOT including Novak! So, Jordan, do us a favour and fluff your strikes on Tuesday evening, thanks.

Recent Form

Blackburn Rovers WLLDD and Huddersfield Town WDLLW, so not much between the two sides in form. The Championship is a strange league regarding form, all teams have the potential to beat each other. A draw will probably not suffice for either the Riversiders or the Terriers, but it may end that way. If Town can maintain the attacking pressure and keep it extremely tight at the back, it may end up with another positive away result. If Town lose concentration, then Jordan may just cause some pain. My prediction? I've got a great feeling about this one, two nil to Town!

Why were town fans applauding Rhodes?????

I was shouting "break his fcking legs" all game......

He only came over to our end to ease his guilty concience, so he sleeps better....

I remember the season before last he was playing crap every game so Lee Clark kept dropping him....He threatened to leave unless he started more games, and got his dad to sit in on meeting with LC & DH.....He's nowt but a spoilt child, with a good first touch.......

He's also a right thick twt in his interviews....
Interviewer: "Did you enjoy scoring 3 goals Jordan"
Rhodes: "Well I don't really know"......what a drip / mincer...

I'm sure when Rhodes scored the goal last night , Dean Hoyle was thinking " Oh Lord, what have I done........."

Break his legs eh, lovely that. So you're the type of person who encourages serious violence towards someone with no provocation, and you're in a position to judge him for being spoilt? Would have you have got out of your seat and celebrated as he was being carried off on a stretcher?

Whats he got to feel guilty about? 124 games, 73 goals and £8m he contributed to your club. Wanna know how many games Phil Jones contributed to ours, or how much money Junior Hoilett did? Heck, we only developed them both from the age of 13 onwards for them to feck off on their terms, one with a release clause in his contract and one refusing to sign a contract.

Rhodes hasn't done much wrong, except having the misfortune of your chairman selling him to a club who weren't much better than you. This bitterness and refusal to accept how the world of football works is incredible.

Hmm although having said all that this is strongly reminiscent of our fans reaction to Lucas Neill going to West Ham after his excellent 6-year stint with us. I guess you get the temper tantrum fans at every club.

Blue dont take it persenel , we are all a bit bitter because you beat us ,and deserved to by the way , and with a combination of Rhodes scoring , and with us losing my have put us down , after all he's the man who got us up with all his goals and now he might have just put us back down with that goal agains us . So you see that's what it's all about its just bitterness that's all .

Ps. i did say only last week , darn will back me up , that Rhodes will end up putting us down .

All arguements have got 2 equally good sides.......

If we had won last night, and Rhodes was guilty of scoring an own goal which gave us the points, I think these discussions would be totally the opposite, and you would be playing hell with us for selling you the most expensive lemon in the world..........

blue and white halves..

I didn't duck any issues..i went to the game??????

very poor game between two very poor sides..fortunately ours has cost much less than yours and both could still go down...

Rhodes has joined you with a view to moving upwards as soon as is humanly possible..

he got even more press coverage during the move and has done enough this season to keep the spotlight on him(ie; scoring a good number of goals in a very poor side)..
Its all going to his agents plan and he will move in summer wether you stay up or go down, I believe its already what they call a "done deal"...

The "realities" of football as you quite rightly pointed out..

both teams would have been lucky to get nil last night, we have centre backs who just "forget " what they are supposed to be doing every now and again and Rhodes scored a goal I would have finished off, in my best shoes with a thick raincoat on....
He then proceeded to have the rest of the night off, as did we...
I said long before he left us that he wont make it at premier league level and I stand by that.. he wont work hard enough and he wont bring enough goals to a side in the top division to allow them to "carry" him in the large number of games where he does absolutely "nothing"...
If we had a "centre back" on the field last night he would have, again, done nothing.. alas we had clark and gerard who masquerade as centre backs whilst huffing and puffing and finding themselves all over the place due to a total lack of being able to "read the game"....

Its not over till the fat lady sings but I think we all saw a big heavy set lass practising her "scales" in the wings at Ewood last night...

There was a guy near me kept shouting "break his f-Ing legs' - clearly had anger management & behavioural issues.

A footballer leaves your club and/or scores against you and you want to break his legs - I don't get it. Comes across as a really good guy, Rhodes - unlike the guy near me last night.

BOB..
we should have marked him properly, thats all.. a bit of "physicality" wouldnt have gone amiss...
breaking his legs wasnt required..
we failed to do either anyway....
i didnt clap him, he didnt want to play for my team so i have no problem in forgetting him.. i also wouldnt boo him, he didnt do anything to be booed for????
you boo dirty players or cheats....
