Liverpool got off to the perfect start in their preparations for the new season with a comfortable victory at Preston North End.
The Reds never looked in danger of failing to get the win, and there was some good football played by Brendan Rodgers's team.
New signings Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure started the match and were hardly threatened, and the new attacking duo Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto came on at half time and showed good movement in their play.
The first goal came on 14 minutes from the penalty spot after former Liverpool player John Welsh made a foul. Philippe Coutinho coolly rolled it into the bottom right corner.
Jordon Ibe scored the second goal on 37 minutes, cutting in from the left and firing a low shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The team was completely changed at half time with only Mignolet staying on. Substitute Raheem Sterling got the third goal for Liverpool, latching onto a clearance and finding himself one on one with the goalkeeper. He took it forward and around the keeper and slotted it in.
And the rout was completed on 75 minutes when Aspas cut in from the right hand side and fired a shot which really should have been saved. But the goalkeeper failed to deal with it and it flew into the centre of the goal.
Danny Ward was given a run out in goal for Liverpool with 12 minutes remaining, and Martin Kelly also got a nine-minute run out following his long term injury.
Liverpool's next match is against an Indonesia XI next Saturday.

ARE - I feel we have enough young players in the squad, we need to add experienced quality to the first team. One or two players.

I forgot mignolet, but then he dident have much to do, However on the one occasion he needed to pull out a save he did, so thats good i guess!

United lost. Moyes rubbing off on them already, losing to Thai teams.

I noticed that United conceded a goal to somebody called Winothai. When I first saw his name, I thought "win nothing". A sign?

I think of a Thai man sitting on a street corner with wine in a brown paper bag
In other news Shelvey apparently had a great debut for Swansea and got an assist.

Not bad, was it mostly second string with youth and a couple of new signings?

I've also just read that this player spent some of his youth career at Everton. Irony.

It was a bit of a mix of a team, BD. We had some of our definite first team starters, but we also had Spearing and Assaidi who will probably be gone soon. And Henderson was playing at right back for some reason.

Henderson didn't play at right-back. Spearing did. Henderson was playing a sort of anchorman role. He did it well.
