Player Salary Stats for last 25 years

This is interesting. The following table shows average pay for each division over the last 25 years, up to 2009/10.

The League One average annual pay was 75k in 2010, which makes JOH look a little overpaid @ 2.6M as a League One reserve...as if we didn't know.

Even a league 2 player earns enough to make a decent living, but them and league 1 players must struggle after retiring unless they have a business of some sort.

When you consider the average is raised by the big clubs in each division, and the established players bump up the average within each club, there must be a load of squad players at small League One & Two clubs that must really struggle.

I predict for this season there will be a massive increase in "average" League One wages just by having RJ, O'Hara & co on the books.

Quick calc then....24 teams with say 24 in each squad x $73000 = 42M.

Add 5M for RJ & JOH = 49M, so a new average of 82K for League one players.

Wow that's great you guys...you two have given the whole division a 12% pay increase..well unless you keep it for yourselves

The League One averages tend to go up and down due to clubs like Wolves and Leeds popping in. But when you look at the salaries for League 2 and I guess the average for most clubs in League 1 its not a great income for a job that's guaranteed to come to an end in your early thirties. Probably not easy for these unskilled guys to get a decent job in the real world when they have only football as experience until they are 35.

I get by on £20,000 a year (net) with no problem at all. The children have to occasionally eat out of bins, but it could be worse.

The average weekly wage across the world is only around 5 turnips a month.
