Dear Arsene

Dear Arsene,

Firstly, thank you for the unrivalled contribution you have made to the success and development of my club.

You arrived as a visionary and helped change the face of English football.

However over the past number of years I feel that your insistence in implementing the same ideologies has hindered the progress of my club.

I appreciate the stadium construction finance commitments have previously hampered your ability to compete however you will be aware that we are now the most 'cash rich' club in Europe and I feel that your hesitation and indecision has cost my club dear.

This has been evidenced over the last number of seasons, and none more so than today when a painfully threadbare team was put to the sword. You were again out thought and out witted; this time by a manager with only four years of Premier League experience.

To conclude Arsene, your legacy at my club is now being overshadowed by your inability to adapt. I know you care about my club however surely you have to accept that your inability to change has only been to the detriment of Arsenal Football Club.

So please Arsene, please step down with a degree of dignity. A position as Director of Football would perfectly suit your undoubted talent however as we all know, your employer does not have the competence to remove you from your current position.

Yours,

WWSPD

How else would you suggest posting on an internet forum?

In reply to your comment. At the moment, anyone who is open to change. Moyes was suggested but laughed off as not good enough. Seems ok for United though.

Klopp. But why would he leave Dortmund.

In short there are countless who could competently do the job.

This is the flip side of the loyalty that we all crave from the players that we want to keep at our clubs.

As we've seen this summer (and numerous times before), fans go mad at the mere thought of their best employees leaving the club.

Loyalty, as this article is testament to, only works one way as far as the fans are concerned.

So a new season has begun. One defeat has resulted in a fan submitting this article into the public domain. That's one result. ONE.

And the OP states that there are "countless who could competently do the job". Who? And out of all the names you think of considering, who would come, who would be able to, who would leave their current position? And WHO could actually guarantee that Arsenal fair better in the league over the next 16-17 years than they have done over the last 16-17 years under Arsene?

I take your point(s) however today's result was a combination of years of mismanagement and gross incompetence.

As I previously mentioned there are countless candidates who could comfortably manage AFC.

When GG was sacked fans asked the same question, who could do the job better. Dein found AW in Japan and went out on a limb to get him.

The methodology of the club today would never take such a risk as they need security. AW provides that but has shown time and time again he will never alter his approach despite how flawed it may be.

"I take your point(s) however today's result was a combination of years of mismanagement and gross incompetence."

-----------------

Is it? Or is it just one result? Context plays a huge part in this. Such a result at the start of the season will often result in fans reading far too much into things. The same result at another point in the season, not so much so.

"As I previously mentioned there are countless candidates who could comfortably manage AFC."

Yes you did previously mention that. I asked you who they are? I also asked who is available, and who would come? I also, and quite clearly, enquired as to who could do as good a job over the 16-17 years that Arsene has done over the last 16-17 years.

There may well be someone out there who can do a better job than Arsene. Maybe Arsene is resting on past laurels. Or maybe not. Maybe the fault (if it exists) doesn't lie with Arsene, but with the board, in which case, no matter who you get in as your next manager, the same "problems" will still exist.

Or maybe you're just over-reacting. After all, it's one result. And only one result. Given the length of time that Arsene has been at the club, and all that he has done for you, my own personal opinion is that you should refrain from expressing such vitriol, refrain from expressing such an extreme viewpoint.

Losing on the first day of the season, especially at home, will always be disappointing. But irrespective of how disappointing it is, it doesn't justify an over-reaction. In fact, nothing justifies an "over-reaction", by the very definition of the term.

My article may have been in response to today’s result however it has been groundhog day season after season after season. Five (even four) years ago I was 100% behind AW due to the financial constraints that were placed on him.

It’s not as if I felt AW should leave because we lost to Villa.

How long do we afford AW the opportunity to put things right when he has shown no indication or willingness to alter his ways?

In truth due to the length of time AW has been at the club and the influence he holds, he has far too much control. His job is to manage, not to dictate how the club spends its money. That is Gazidis’s job. Just like transfer negotiations are Richard Laws job. How many deals has AW pulled the club out of because HE did not agree with the valuation.

It is hard to argue with those who feel that AFC will not win another trophy under AW. Despite being the most ‘cash rich’ club in Europe we have not signed a single player of note.

Forward.

Groundhog day as in never finishing outside of the top four in god knows how many years?

It doesn't help that City came into all their money, it didn't help that Chelsea did also. At a time when Arsenal, because of the stadium, had to cut back on expenditure elsewhere. At a time when United have been the dominant force for the last 20 years.

If Arsenal don't win another trophy under AW, then the blame for that shouldn't be aimed towards Wenger. But rather aimed towards the continued domination of United and the emergence of Chelsea and (more recently) City. Those three clubs are going nowhere - those three clubs will continue to compete. So, dismissing Wenger and getting another manager in, even a top class manager, and it's no guarantee that Arsenal will fair better than they are currently doing under Wenger.

Getting a new manager will certainly alter the status quo and hopefully bring new (modern) ideas to the club.

AW is still implementing tactics he used in the 90's. His approach is outdated and has (time and time again) been found out by lesser teams than Chelsea, United and co.

Despite the prestige and wealth of City et all we are no longer their rivals. Our rivals are now Liverpool, Spurs etc despite having more resource than 99% of clubs in Europe.

If you added up the entire PL's cash reserve it would be on a par with ours. Shameful.
