Society of Black Lawyers

A letter of complaint from a pressure group has been sent to the Football Association demanding that Hodgson attend a 'race appreciation' training course.

"The 'innocent remark' made out of ignorance is sadly a common feature of football," said Peter Herbert, the head of the Society of Black Lawyers and who also runs the new Race For Sport organisation.

"We are using the appropriate complaints procedure to urge the FA to provide mandatory 'race appreciation' training and 'cultural capital and cultural intelligence' training to Roy Hodgson and all football managers in the UK."

Well. Crikey. I simply cannot fathom the logic of these people. I'm yet to find one person who witnessed the incident who has admitted to being offended with the two players involved have both publicly ridiculed criticism, and yet the Society of Black Lawyers inevitably plow in and condemn Hodgson.

What is the point of this organisation? Is the Law society notorious for the prejudiced views of its white members? No. So what is their function? Is it to eradicate racism? If that's the case, why is it restricted to Black Lawyers. If that's the case, then why did they butt into the Y-word debate?

There would be an outroar, and rightly so, if anyone tried to set up a society of White Lawyers. Why, then, is it OK to be encouraging positive discrimination with such a society? To me, it reeks of egocentric self-publicity. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they do some good, but saying that Hodgson should attend a "racial awareness course" will not, ultimately, do any good whatsoever. If anything, it could have a detrimental effect. It's almost as bad as John Barnes' assertion that he wasn't given a fair chance at management because he's black. No John, it's because you are to management what Wayne Rooney is to the world of Physics.

I think Morgan Freeman's reaction when interviewed on "Black History Month" was utterly brilliant and hit the nail on the head. Can't look it up now, but if anyone can access youtube now then you could easily find it.

Anyway, thoughts? I'm interested if anyone more knowledgable than me can enlighten me as to exactly what SOBL do.

P.S: Apologies if this has already been done, but I've not seen a thread on it.

Is there an Association of White Lawyers?

If not why not, just having a black one which is probably closed to white members is in itself racist imho. And if there was Association of White Lawyers they would probably be accused of being racist just for existing.

One of the things I hate most in life is discrimination and I think the "positive discrimination" that we see regularly is still discrimination and any group that practices positive discrimination should be subject to the law just the same as any other group that practices any other form of discrimination. I have missed out on jobs purely because I am a white male and was told that was the reason off the record on 2 occasions.

In fact I might start a group called "Any discrimination is discrimination" to counter this blatant discrimination. It would be a bit like Fathers for Justice, standing up for a group that society lets be discriminated against.

No need as white lawyers are not in the minority bud. The 'problem' with many minority societies/groups is the general reaction to anything resembling 'a case', no matter how far fetched.
The SOBL have done themselves more harm than good in this instance imo. If I were black and had a grievance, these bunch of idiots would now be my last port of call.

Every time that these sort of people make their pathetic pronouncements they set race relations back 100 years.

People are people. Some are good , some indifferent and some bad, regardless of creed or colour.

We don't need so called pressure groups whinging away and trying to make a name for themselves or a fast buck. The days of racial and sexual inequality are long gone.

Hodgson said "Feed the monkey" and then used the NASA story as a cover up.

Still not as racist as John Terry
