Stuart Williams, legend, passes away

Albion have announced the sad passing of legendary right back Stuart Williams. Williams played nearly 250 times for Albion and played a part in both of our last two FA Cup successes (albeit not on the pitch).

For me, his is a name that I know well from Albion lore but sadly don't know much about. From reading up on him at the Albion website, it appears that he was a proper club man.

I hope we can give him a terrific tribute when we play Villa at our next home game.

He was one of my earliest memories as a fan. These days premier clubs are full of players with international experience - we probably have a dozen on the books.
In the early 60s with only the home internationals available such players were thin on the ground so WBA having 3 internationals Stuart and Graham Williams and Don Howe vying for 2 full-back slots made us a bit special.
Stuart was a very accomplished player. RIP.

This is The Baggie Man

I well remember Stuart Williams and what a good and loyal player for West Bromwich Albion FC he was.

It is sad to see these unpretentious stars of the past pass away but c'est la vie, time catches up with us all.

Rest in Peace Stuart

I never saw him play but he was a presence pitch-side in the mid-60s when I first started watching Albion. Gone to join other late Albion greats. RIP.
