I reckon it was probably the best game i've seen since we beat Aldershot 6 - 1 two seasons ago, when everything went our way.
It was great to go one-up with a great Calvin Zola goal ater 13 mins, but Shrewsbury are no mugs, and you can see how they turned over Derby. Indeed
Shrewsbury were unlucky to be behind at half time. We all knew that Ainsworth was going to be the danger man, and it was surprising to see him with so much
time & space in the first half.
The concerted Albion pressure in the fifteen minutes , or so, after half-time was brilliant , chance after chance but we needed a goal to put them away, and
as Brewers fan, you always felt that, having not put away a second goal, that
there was a certain inevitability about having to settle for a draw.
Main points for me:
1) A great game. Good atacking football by two good sides. Infinitely better than the sterile defensive fare we were served up last season. Lets hope we stick to it. A bit "route 1" but they also showed that they can play the passing game on the floor too (and must use both )
2) Pleased for Ross Atkins, who grew in confidence as the game went on, and is also a very good shot-stopper
3) Have thought this for a long time, but Burton seem to trudge disconsulately back, after conceeding a goal. Some positive motivational huddle, is in my
opinion necessary, to forget the goal conceeded, and focus in on effort and commitment , and be mentally and physically strong to overcome this temporary setback. We could have lost it in the last few minutes! What do you think?
4) Man of the Match - for me Calvin Zola, who not only scored but "worked his socks off". He seemed to be the target for every throw-in , maybe too much so. Another thing I have felt for ages that there is not enough running "off the ball" to create space and opportunities at throw-ins.
But well played you Brewers, and lets get a vocal crowd down to out-chant the many Port Vale fans expected Tuesday night.

Perfect assessment of the game brewerdave. Spot on.
Excellent game of football. Thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining. End to end stuff and lots of chances at both ends. Both teams were a credit to themselves and this league.
Shrewsbury are an excellent team and the fact that we matched them and were better than them at times speaks volumes for what we have at the moment.
I have been critical of the Manager for most of 2011 but I am thinking that I may need to put the Humble Pie in the oven soon. That said, I did say for most of last season that we should play expansive and attacking football (whilst Pesch insisted on playing negative).
I thought Cleveland also had a brilliant game. Superb tracking back.
The referee was a complete idiot.
Thoughts on the final whistle?
1/ A superb game of football.
2/ We could well have a top 10 team here.
3/ Some teams will get a battering from us.
4/ That's 2 more points than I expected so far.

A brilliant game, fantastic going forward but i thought we looked a bit vunerable at the back. Please Mr Pesc could we have an experienced centre back alongside Tom Parkes just to command the defence and bark out orders. One last comment i thought Justin Richards gave us a display of how class strikers go about there business and my word that man is class. All in all things are looking good at this early stage of the season.

A great match and I'm really pleased that I got home from holiday a day early to see the game.
As mentioned previously, there is that lingering worry that our defence is still fragile, especially when a ball is slung across the area. I watched Terry Gornell in the build up to his goal and he was signalling for the ball long before it came over from the left, yet he was still given time to get his head onto it.
Still, before the game I was saying we'd be lucky to get away with a 3-1 defeat, but the team can look hard done by only getting a point in the end. It certainly looks more promising than last season and my hope is that Peschisolido has seen the light and (hopefully) will keep a 4-4-2 formation this season. It seems to be working.
By the way, was it me or did we revert to a lot more hoofing when Macca came on? I like the look of the Bolder/Maghoma central pair, but would like to see Dyer used more as a back up as opposed to McGrath.
I'll be getting on my plane to Sweden tomorrow a lot happier than I thought I would be. Will miss Port Vale and Southend, but hopefully will be back in time for Accrington.

Think you have all commented pretty well there and am in agreement. We look a lot more balanced, think Stanton if he can get fit will play well alongside young Tom but we need to bully sides a bit more.Palmer's delivery from free kicks and corners gives us a whole new dimension and Richards has certainly spiced up our attacking play.

Great game and fair result would have been nice to score
a second goal when we had a nice spell begining of the second half only we do look like we are going to concede goals easy again agree we need someone to marshall the defence more , Richards and Zola look like they are going to cause some problems up front ,i would also like to Dyer play more think he offers more than Macca but a very good start.
Can not wait for Port Vale on Tuesday.
Nice to be back on a site with some more Brewers fans.

Would like to reinforce tcbrewers comment about "nice to be back on a site with some more Brewers "fans".
I've had a look in all the League 2 sections of JA606 and , unless I've missed something our articles and comments are by far the best . The only one that gets close to us is Swindon.
Accrington seems to have been taken over by the "free Luca Moderich Campaign" (did he come from around there? (lol) ) and other volumes of contributions seem to be about Carling Cup opponents like Leeds and Bradford .
I have always been impressed by the level of debate and analysis by Burton fans. We are objective, and can
appreciate our opponents and will readily give them credit for their performance. I wonder if Pesch consults JA606 , he ought to cos its genuine fans making valid points, because we care about our team.
Special thanks are due to Otep and Eminem in particular, and not forgetting Wednesbury Brewer for keeping conversation going throughout the summer onJA606 with a well-informed insight that was able to
keep interest going in those barren summer days. Thanks lads !
We've got a very important game against Port Vale, which really we must win! Looking forward to the rest of this season

Thanks brewerdave.
I imagine it won't be long before we get a few wind up merchants on here.
Funny you saying that about other League 2 boards. I have looked on them aswell. Many have no postings at all.

At last we are playing the old formation that did so well in the first season in League 2........4-4-2.........as long as this is maintained we will continue to reap the rewards as a team and as supporters! We may be a bit loose at the back but when we attack we look like we may actually score a real change from the tactics employed last season. Based on this game I've just choked on a huge piece of humble pie as Ross Atkins you played a blinder!!!
