We let Stephen Ward go to Brighton when they were almost bottom of the Championship. Could now get into the play-off places with a win at Charlton today.
So, should we have kept him to help with our promotion push?
Have we missed a trick?

Now you're being deliberately obtuse, Wolfie.
DJ clearly said last season, in the Championship. The way those players are doing now, shows that they were more than capable, therefore it had to be down to the managment methods and coaching (if there was any).
Let's remember, those same players were previously in the Premiership, and were never relegated whilst Mick was in charge. The fiasco that followed his sacking meant that there was little chance of the team surviving for a third season running, as Connor clearly wasn't cut out for management, and the club imploded, with little fight.

McCarthy had our team level on points with the team in 16th when he was sacked so yes the players were good enough to be there. And unquestionably good enough for the Championship and that's why the bookies made us one of the favourites to get promoted from the Championship..
But Connor, Solbakken and Saunders took the team from the Premier to League One. And then most of the players went back to a higher level where they belong. Fortunately for us Kevin Doyle stayed loyal to help us turn the corner and I am sure all Wolves fans will be forever grateful to him for that.

Doyle didn't stay loyal at all. The fact is, no-one wanted him and he wasn't in KJ's plans at the start of the season. Celtic refused to pay the 1.5m asking price we put on him and the probability of a pay cut.
Doyle is our most highly paid player and to me he's not doing enough to warrant his salary. That is, scoring goals.

In the games that Doyle has not played as a striker this season we are averaging one goal a game. Only one team in the division are averaging less than one goal a game.
In the games that Doyle has played as a striker we are averaging 1.82 goals a game. Only one team in the league is averaging more than that.

Yes, Doyle has stayed loyal. Hasn't requested a transfer as far as I know.
What value the club put on him at any given time, or what interest there is from other clubs, or whether or not there would be any "probability of a pay cut" in the event he were to go, is totally irrelevant.

Wolfie may not be deliberately obtuse. It maybe that he can't help being obtuse. Don't blame him when you don't know the full facts, Butey.

Butey, why would he put in a transfer request when he knows he won't earn as much money, as he is doing with us. Are you that naive?
Doyle is a typical modern day footballer, who gets what he can, when he can.
The day we find another player like Bully, will be the day hell freezes over.

Ah - character assassination now.
If you can't form an articulate argument to defend your case, you defame Doyle by questioning his integrity.

Doyle has said he is enjoying being in a team winning games after years of fighting relegation with Wolves and Reading. And he is doing a great job for us when most of the Solbakken dross couldn't wait to get out.
Doyle was willing to take a pay cut to move to Celtic but Wolves were not prepared to accept Celtic's offer. Doyle is far from a typical footballer. Far more intelligent, far more loyal, and takes pride in playing for Wolves at this level when everyone knows he is well capable at playing at a higher level, as he has proved with Wolves

I agree. One of the few players without an agent, that does his own negotiating and states in a newspaper that he wants to stay at a club to help it out of its current predicament when he could play at a higher level; is just your typical money grabbing footballer who is only in it for himself.
