What is England Cricket success down to?

Central Contracts: The Focus on Team England! Putting your country before county club & other commitments!

Selection Continiuty: Consistency of picking the same team for a long & consistent period of time rather than chopping & changing!

Strong Leadership: Solid, no nonesene leaders in the form of Strauss & Flower. A good understand between the 2 & they know what to expectfrom the team.

Fitness: The team look a lot more fitter & athletic about their approach to cricket. Whether one of their major sponsors - Maximuscle had a major impact - it seems to be doing wonders.

Attitude & Approach: This group of England have a very solid attitide. They are also rutheless & clinical in their approach to the game. They are consistent, hard-working & never-say-die attitude about the game. They do NOT fear losing from any position whether they are 8 down or something or conceded a 100 run 1st innings loss. They have the character to come back. You just dont know when this England team will be beat!

Squad Depth: They have a range of solid players ready to come in if injuries etc occur.

Strategy: England prepare each of thier series with structural planning. I remember before the Ashes down under in 2006 - they had poor planning & didnt do that well. In 2010 they planned extremely better. 3 warm up games before the 1st test & they won all of them with style, conviction & ruthlessly!

Backroom staff: England have a great array of backroom staff. The bowling coach, batting coach & even the Spinning coachhas all helped contribute England perfomance!

In summary this England team can dominate all forms of the game for a long time to come especially in Tests Cricket!

They have won the T20!
They have achieved the No.1 test ranked team in the World!
Can England improve in the ODI format. Can they win the World Cup in 2015? Can they maintain their status as the No.1 Test ranked team in the world?

England have a clear idea of where they want to go & what they want to achieve! The sky is their limit & they are always looking to improve!

Other nations should be afraid of this England team because they have come a long way up & are looking to maintain their success for a long period of time to come!

"Their diet & very healthy & nutritiously good & healthy which also helps themperform to their maximum on the pitch."

yes certainly , also the carefully selected smooth fabric of their underpants helps alleviate perspiration and thus greater circulation of blood haha
It is funny to see all these silly reasons put forth in hindsight.
Like no other team had a system of central contracts ! As if no other team has a backroom staff.

Truth is england happened to have eleven men in goodform.God knows when this purple patch will end..

getting the right eleven guys in good form is not as easy as you make it sound

the fact that the selectors have invested in players and supported them in the right way makes a huge difference, and as i said above what we have seen is players being ready for international cricket when they get their chance

its one thing having a system of central contracts but its how you then use that "power" to develop individuals and the team thats been the key

the BCCI have all their players under central contracts as well , so why weren't they able to ensure that their players and their team was well prepared and ready for this series, which is obviously has not been

CA has their players under central contract so why did we see the shambles we did last winter with absolutely no continuity in selection, especially amongst their bowlers, and guys being thrown into test cricket who were quite clearly not ready to play at that level

Pox, you might try a spoonful of sugar to help that very bitter medicine go down.....

I think that the ECB take a great deal of care and planning identifying future talent as well - something that has allowed some of todays team to prosper

I think the ECB have done a fantastic job. A few years ago, maybe 10 years ago, the ECB identified our lack of leg spinners, and good spinners really along with good fast bowling options. We are now reaping the benefits of the work that was put into place then.
I think a lot of credit has to go to Nasser Hussain for getting the ball rolling on this and the steel he added to the England team.

Agreed Dolly - I have just mentioneds something similar on another thread - Fletcher had a lot to do with both your points as well

Yeah fair call, not a huge fan of Fletcher but yes he does deserve credit, along with Hussain, in the job they did in setting the ECB off in the right direction. Two very strong willed men who shouted until people listened.

Im into fitness myself & take sports supplements with a healthy diet.

Above all England were a LOT MORE motivated in the current series with India than India are!

To do well in any sport - You have to be motivated & put the effort in training in which hopefully it will pay its dividends on the pitch
