FIFA 2014

Hi there,

My kid's just bought his first console - an Xbox - and one of the games is FIFA '14. We live in a terraced 3-floor house and can't get a WI-FI signal in the TV room. I've tried a couple of different solutions that haven't worked, but that isn't what I'm here for.

The question is, I haven't been able to work out how to play a one-player season against the computer without hooking up to the game server. Can't you? Can it really be true that you're fleeced €60 for a game that only allows you to play one-off friendly games if you're not on-line? I hadn't played FIFA for over a decade - I think around '00/'01 - and I still can't believe you can't play a season against the computer without going on-line. Maybe I'm just being thick. IS there any way?

Thanks.

Wait, are you trying to play 'seasons' mode cause that, despite the name, isn't career mode. I got confused by that the first time I saw it

My internet is gone since last Tuesday (storm took a tree down which took a pole out) but I've used fifa since. It tells me there is no internet and gives the option of checking the connection or going ahead and playing.

Is it a 360 or Xbox one? 360 should definitely work

At the top the tabs are 'home' 'play' 'customise' and something else.

Go to the 'play' tab and go to 'new career'

When it prompts your connection to be checked, just press 'continue anyway' or similar. Make sure you save the file, though.

"If the 'hole' is not there or impractical, get yourself these things called home plugs. Basically, they feed the Internet through your mains, so you just plug one in the TV room and one in the router room, connect it up and you're set. The speed's probably not going to be as good as WiFi, but you'll still get more than enough to game no problem. I'm using it now for my 360."

Pretty sure you get better speeds than through WiFi with those Penguin, I know my brother does, considerably.

There's no reason they shouldn't work IOAG, you have to sync them properly for them to work don't you? It's not just a case of plugging them in and away you go?

@Melton,

Home plugs are excellent, I picked up a pair for £25 and they work really well. With regards to syncing, I only had to plug one, then the other then press a button on each to sync. Took about 3/4mins.

Sorted! Penguin, you sussed it out for me. Something as simple as "Seasons" vs "Career mode". Suppose the game should come with a warning about letting 20th century dinosaurs play with 21st century technology.

Thanks everyone for your input. Still to see about getting the signal fixed - everything in due time.

Couple of things

1) The menu system on FIFA is stupid, until you understand it. Everyone i know has had the same problems

2) The stuff over the plugs is dependent on the wiring in the house. I tried some once, during the day with few electrical items being used it was fine, good signal and everything. However at night with some lights on and other things on like TV etc they stopped working. What i will say though was my house was over 200 years old and i imagine the wiring hadnt been updated or changed for a good 60-70 years

Speeds aren't better when it's my bargain basement home plugs versus a virgin super hub

Plus there was no syncing for mine, literally just plug and play. There may have been a code I had to enter but it was simple as he'll.
