Why did Ozil take the penalty ? He had missed his previous pen, and people say its unlucky to take a penalty that you won (Bar Messi of course)
But why Ozil...I understand Arteta and Giroud were not on the pitch but there must be a reason he is 3rd choice. Is it because he is German or can he really take a good penalty and we have just seen 2 bad ones recently ?
I assume Wenger has done penalty taking in practice and its possible Ozil is pretty good at them. Maybe he believes the old football 'superstition' of if you win it don't take it. You could tell in his body language he was uncomfortable taking it.
Was he nervous as it was against his best mate Neuer ?
I am at a lose on why he was our designated taker yesterday.........would like to see stats on his penalty miss/goal ratio.
Many say Cazorla should have taken but why Cazorla ? why not Flamini or The OX or even Wilshere ?
Must be a reason us fans have not yet seen from Ozil.......
I think he should take the next one.....he is a quality player but is down a bit lately.
Is he home sick ? does he look at the players and see's Giroud up front and think 'I miss Ronaldo' ? whatever it is and the reason he took the penalty we must not give him too much of a hard time. He will get better and when he does we all be singing his praise.........
and on the subject of singing......have we done a song about him yet ?...A nice song.....? something to make him feel we believe in him still....
We have a song for Giroud and Ozil is far better player than he is....
What is the reason Ozil took the penalty?

He's missed his last three in a row now, there's definitely an issue there for a player of his calibre.

Yep, he's shít at taking penalties. I can live with that.
Question is, why did the others not step up the task? Bottled it?

Lets be honest, anyone can take a penalty! Some are more composed than others, but personally I would of given it to Ox...because he's in very good form at the moment and would of been confident stepping up, more-so than Ozil!

The trouble is, its easy after the event, but if Ox had taken it and missed people would be saying why didnt our 42mil player take it!
its just one of those things.

Look, it's a culture shock and I don't begrudge him the time to come to terms with the PL coming from the balmy Spanish League. Of course he's a class player, the whole of Germany think so and if anyone has a grudge to bear against his previous missed pens it's him. I was hoping he's put those demons to bed last night but alas, no.
So be it, it doesn't take away from the fact that he's a constant threat, it's just that we're more aware of how he's not immune to psychological setback. Every player goes through it, if anything it's out job to help him through it, no berate him.
Hindsight is a beautiful thing and perhaps Jack would have buried it but it's a sign of character from Ozil that he wanted to step up and take the pen. He's a winner, moreso than anyone else in the squad, his form will return with some renewed confidence.

Would people really be arguing that about a player who's been bang out of form for months and had missed his last 2 penalties?

I feel bad for Arsenal and I wanted you guys to win against Bayern.
The problem was not with the entire penalty but rather the casual approach of Ozil while striking the penalty. He had not even taken full two steps before lazily kicking the football from the penalty spot.Has anybody talked about that?
