Alex Higgins, first genius of Snooker

RIP Alex Higgins 1949-2010

In my opinion there have only been two authentic geniuses in snooker. Alex Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan. Alex's genius was not really about pure snooker brilliance like Ronnie O'Sullivan, much of Alex's genius was about being the first, beginning the modern age of snooker at a time when snooker had just plodded along for years as a very pedestrian affair. Without Alex there could be no Ronnie.
