The perfect example for me of two modern, young and positive thinking coaches in the Premier league both reside in Merseyside.
I have been extremely impressed with Roberto Martinez not only for the results he has got Everton churning out but the tactical nous and daring he shows in games. At the Emirates at 0-0 there are not many managers in the world who would have brought on Gerard Deulofeu to try and win the game. As it was Arsenal scored but Everton went on to draw the game and gain reward for Martinez's positive mindset. I also believe he has made a very high number of substitutions who have ended up winning the game for him with Lukaku playing from the right another bold move on the weekend. It will be a genuine victory for football if Everton end up finishing fourth with it being a well run club and playing some great football.
As for Rodgers, I don't think we can praise him enough this season. From man management, SAS partnership, Anfield factor, great football and great results most of it can be attributed directly to Rodgers. He switches from formations quite easily and has a system which each player at the club has really bought into.
I really think with both having a continental outlook on management and both having studied the game not only in Britain but abroad it has helped them in dealing with different types of players also. This is a thing that I do feel a lot of the British managers lag behind in as not many could manage abroad because of lack of understanding of language, culture and players.
I know Everton are massive rivals but champions league football for both teams would be excellent for the city and would be richly deserved. What is great to see is both clubs doing well and I do hope with these two modern and positive thinking managers it continues for a long time.
Positive thinking modern managers

I would righteous, not that they shouldn't be but money doesn't just talk it shouts. And at least two teams have more of it.
City could probably get Martinez or Rodgers if they really wanted to.

Well Reggie, don't remember when Rodgers took a team dead and buried and rescued them.

Credit where credit is due and Pulis has obviously done a good job at Palace. But I feel in the short term a new manager gives everyone a lift usually as seen with Spurs under Sherwood and O'Neill a while back at Sunderland. The real challenge comes the following season when teams start realising the tactics and the way Crystal Palace will play.
Stoke were eventually found out under Pulis and his style of football is not pleasant on the eye to say the least but he clearly does a dam good job of keeping teams up and grinding out results with some big scalps along the way. In this scenario I also think Martinez and even BR will be faced with a massive task next season as everybody now in the league will know what they are all about.

I was talking about top two longest serving managers, not top two teams.

For Pulis to come in and take over a team that had 3 points at the beginning of November and turn them into what is a safe looking side that has conceded less goals than Arsenal is superb management in every sense of the word.
For what it's worth I don't think BR could do what Pulis has and visa versa.

I think our game at Palace will be a tough tough game. Just as tough as the Chelsea game

Good thread, I'm a big admirer of Martinez. I think he'll have a great career in football management, Everton are lucky to have him. Shame we ended up with their old scrubbed up manager though.

Unfortunately I think Moyes will end up getting it right and be quite successful.

comment by Robbing_Hoody - Here, have some goals. You don't have to work for them. They're a gift. That's what we do now. (U6374)

That's an irrational fear IMO. Nothing Moyes has ever done suggests he will do anything better than "OK". Fergie has gone, Man U are pants, it's all good!
