TEAM NEWS:

Arsenal will give fitness tests to three players before the FA Cup semi-final against holders Wigan Athletic.

Midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (groin) and Tomas Rosicky (thigh) face checks as does full-back Kieran Gibbs (ankle) before the Wembley tie.

Ben Watson, who scored the winner in last season's final against Manchester City, is out with a broken leg.

Latics boss Uwe Rosler must decide between Scott Carson and Ali Al Habsi for the goalkeeping slot.

MATCH PREVIEW:

Wigan, under Roberto Martinez's management, produced a major upset by winning the FA Cup last season.

But Rosler, who took over in December following Owen Coyle's ill-fated short reign, believes Martinez has done his old club no favours this time round.

Arsenal head into the match on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Martinez's Everton, a result that has damaged the Gunners's hopes of finishing in the Premier League's top four.

"In many ways, Arsenal's defeat at Everton last Sunday didn't help us because it puts even more pressure on Arsenal to absolutely go for it and to win a trophy this year with their Champions League place under threat," Rosler told Wigan's website.

"We have to make sure we stay in the game as long as possible and give ourselves a chance to get through to the final."

Ray Parlour, who won nine major honours with the Gunners, including three league titles and four FA Cups, says Arsenal's players should be more interested in ending the club's nine-year wait for a trophy rather than trying to guarantee another Champions League campaign.

"If I had to pick fourth and no trophy, or fifth and a trophy... I would take the trophy," said ex-England international Parlour.
"It would give the club a big boost."

MATCH FACTS:

Arsenal have never met Wigan before in the FA Cup. The overall head to head record is played 20, Arsenal wins 15, Wigan wins three and draws two.

The last time Arsenal met Wigan was in May 2013 just after their FA Cup final win over Man City. The Latics were relegated after losing 4-1.

Arsenal's Olivier Giroud has scored five goals in his last five FA Cup games, including three in three substitute appearances this season.

Mikel Arteta has scored four goals against Wigan in the Premier League; only against Blackburn (6) has he been more prolific.

Arsenal have lost both previous matches they have played at the new Wembley Stadium by a 1-2 scoreline, to Chelsea in the 2009 FA Cup semi-final and to Birmingham in the 2011 League Cup final.

Wigan have won both FA Cup matches they have played at the new Wembley without conceding - last year's semi-final and final.

The Latics are unbeaten in their last 12 FA Cup matches, winning 10 and drawing two.

Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez has five goals and five assists in his last 10 FA Cup starts.

Arsenal fans, you're as ungracious - and unliked - as ever. As a Leeds fan I know all about being unliked but I think I'd have the decency to say well done to Championship opponents who made you look pretty ordinary at times. As you might have guessed, I was rooting for Wigan – and if it hadn't been for the manager's disastrous strategy of leaving the best penalty taker till last (what the hell was he thinking of?), we could have seen a massive upset. To all Wigan fans, commiserations. You can be proud of your boys' performance today. Meanwhile good luck in reaching the playoffs.
