ITS ONLY HALF TIME

Well we won ! ,at what cost im not sure ,we have week to patch up the wounded , but we are going to be without our inspirational leader for the remaining match or matches which was very harsh ,but i thought the referee was poor throughout . On the way to the match i said to myself anything less than 2-0 wont be good enough ,i stand by that especially with our depleated squad for the second leg ,but hey ,we battled well ,we fought ,and harried the opposition especially when we went down to ten men . Southend looked a good side, and but for Lyness im sure would have scored at least two goals to take back . Its a shame away goals dont count more like in the Champions league , as a 1-0 would be better. The crowd got behind our team today and made it a special atmosphere ,what a shame we cant get 4500 every home game . Come on Brewers we are so close to a wembly visit at least , all we need is a draw next saturday , i do hope im wrong ,and its not another disapointment in a huge game .

Well done Brewers. The tactics were clear to see from Southend , bully, go in hard on tackles and the ref did a great job in letting Southend get away with it.
The sending off of Sharps was a joke, yes the second was a yellow , but the first was never a hand ball.

Let's hope we patch ourselves up for Saturday,
I hope Zeli is Ok and we get the Sheriff back.

I don't care what the Southend manager comes out with saying he's ok about the result , they lost and that's got to have hurt Southend.

Come on Brewers let's go for it on Saturday.

Surely there's grounds for a successful appeal for Sharpsy to get his red rescinded. The first yellow hit his chest and not his arm and with the game being televised there are images that can be looked at to prove it.

Or do reviews of decisions only exist for Premier league clubs?

I was at the game as a semi neutral (did a deal with a guy from work to watch eachothers teams in the playoffs, I'm a Belper fan). Southend looked pretty fluent going forward and Burton defended pretty resolutely. The goal was the only real quality Burton showed in the final third in the 90 minutes. The referee was inconsistent. Let a lot go early doors, then seemed to randomly blow for anything later on. Agree the sending off was harsh.

Here's the problem. Straight reds can be appealed. Yellow cards, however unjustified can never be appealed, therefore the red will stand come rain or shine! (as it was on the day!).

A 1-0 home win is certainly an advantage, even if slender. Southend will have to score, if the Brewers should get an early goal that will give Southend a big problem. If Southend get an early goal it's important to remember it's still only 1-1 on aggregate. The longer the game goes on without Southend scoring the greater the pressure will be on them.

I fancy Brewers for this.
