England vs Sri-lanka (two tests)

Theres calls for Robson to be in the starting 11 next week. But it won't happen.. Joe Root will be given the openers role.I suspect Ballance will be number 3. Unsure on the spinners place.. Tredwell looks likely. But its ok bowling in odis..when your being attacked and take wickets,.Its different when your expected to bowl teams out.

Hopefully Bresnan will not be chosen over Jordan.. But with the kissy bum bums in the ecb and selection panels.. Bresnan will probably get the nod.
The problem I have with Tim Brensan.. Hes not a first change bowler. if he is. His strike rate is awful. Means we are missing a swann. because he was an attacking option. After the opening bowlers have bowled.
There is no real threat..So Jordan should be chosen.
Oh and Prior will get into the 11 if hes fit. Doesn't matter if Jos Buttler is playing better or not. Cook has said Buttler is not ready. And he needs his best friend Prior back.. so Bye Bye Buttler.

Its not good enough.. But it will be accepted by the players and the ecb.. they just don't care enough. No leaders of any kind. Says it all that the only real candidate is cook for the captain. I can see where kp was coming from.. he was still a tossar though.

Cook ? Prior ? Yes theyve been below par but what about Broad ? Why is it this guy always escapes criticism ? If he was half as good as what he thinks is then he would be a world beater. Unfortunately , a hatrick has masked what was another very average performance but sadly will have guaranteed him his place for the next 10 matches. The guy had not bowled a ball in anger since the t20 world cup yet has walked straight back into the side. Surely it would have been better to have gone back to Notts to get some form and get ready for the India series

Eh? have you not been watching cricket? broad as been englands best bowler in the last year and half.

Our best bowler for the last 18 months ? Seriously ? If thats true then its still not much to shout about but nevertheless, lets examine that.
He was dropped for the away series in India the management claiming he was injured instead of just saying his performances were inept leaving Anderson, Finn , Swann and Panesar to turn the series around ( successfully). For some reason though despite the other four bowlers efforts in India he walked straight back into the team huffing and puffing away again with very little joy.
As the summer went on, we arrived at the 2nd innings of the 4th test he decided to grace us with his presence with one of those devastating spells he occasionally produces which secures his place in the team for the next 15 matches and then disappears back into his shell again. He might have been our best bowler in Oz but thats not much to brag about
In the t20 world cup he was more worried about protecting his own average than doing what was best for the team leaving poor Dernbach and Jordan to face the music instead of stepping up himself as the senior bowler with Bresnan ( and the less said about him the better)
If this equates to him being our best bowler for the last 18 months then we have problems. Plunkett has been our most dangerous bowler thus far this summer but will he open the bowling against India ? Will he heck?
Broad is a talented bowler but doesnt back it up anywhere near often enough

All this notion of picking more all-rounders in a Test side is rubbish. Just go with 4 proper bowlers and try to bowled out the opp team. Oz did the same for years and years...

Broad bowled well in both ashes series.. he did well in NZ.. hes been our best seam bowler in the last year and half. Anderson asnt been great in either ashes series.

Easy to get puddled sometimes. Keep it simple, 6 batsmen, a wicketkeeper who can bat and your best 4 bowlers.

Anderson is surrounded by mediocre bowlers like Broad, Bresnan and Plunkett. Even McGrath would have struggled with these kind of players..

Hang on a minute, Broad bowled well in one innings of last years Ashes series and he was below average for the rest. I agree about Anderson , he has been below par since about the 2nd test last year. My problem with Broad is he bowls like a guy whose place in the team is safe no matter what

eh? he finished with 20 odd wickets last ashes at home,, he bowled wel down under aswell. hes been a good bowler in recent times..
