Rank Your Rivals Transfer Activity So Far

Admin please multiboard.

Morning All,

I am pretty sure that a lot of Spurs fans will be a bit frustrated about our unusually quiet summer transfer window, however I am not one of them.

The biggest signing for us this summer was a manager, and I am confident we have made a very shrewd signing.

For me we NEED a left back and a centre back (or two), and then we are good to go. No attacking reinforcement is really needed, but of course if we can make upgrades on what we have within our budget then we should. Perhaps a left winger, striker, and deep lieing playmaker are other areas that could be improved.

However, this article is a place for us all to discuss how our rivals are getting on so far.

For the purpose of this article, I am talking about "rivals" being the top 7 clubs currently, who I think most would agree are a pretty much competing in our own league at the moment (and mini leagues within that)

Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton

So each fan would take the other 6 clubs, and rank the signings.

As far as I am aware the signings are

Man U – Luke Shaw, Herrera, Van Gaal
Man C - ?
Chelsea – Costa, Fabregas, Filipe Luis?
Arsenal – Sanchez, Debuchy?
Spurs – Poch
Everton – Barry
Liverpool – Can, Lambert, Lallana

Please let me know if I have missed any, and if I have then please include them in your rankings.

Rank them out of 10, and the factors to consider are
1. Quality
2. Longevity (age, how long do you think they will stick around)
3. Price
4. Necessity (i.e. was that position a problem position which has now been resolved, or simply strengthening an area further that was already strong)

Maybe we can get a good debate going?

Here are mine

Man U – Shaw 7, Herrara 7.5, Van Gaal 8.5
Man C - ?
Chelsea – Fabregas 8, Costa 7.5, Luis? 8
Arsenal – Sanchez 8, Debuchy 5
Liverpool – Can 6.5, Lambert 7.5, Lallana 6.5
Everton – Barry 8

Pep Guardiola described Rooney as "a big player, one of the best I have seen in my career."

I dont remember any sensible journo or pundit hyping Zaha up to be next Ronaldo.

Back to Luke Shaw, He was immense last season. He wont have to adjust to the league like foreign signings so the risk of him being a flop is minimal. Shaw was unfazed when playing for England which is also a positive. The pressure of playing for England never got to him. He seems to be kind of a guy that can handle the pressure of playing for a big club. Even with all these positives there is always an element of risk attached to it like in any other transfer but there is lot going for him to be a success at United.

Im quite happy with this signing, Although we overpaid quite a lot, we manage to procure a player that is already better than anyone we got for that position. Player who is also just 18 with potential for significant improvement.

Credit should go to Chelsea's transfer negotiation team, They have done brilliantly this summer.

They conned PSG into paying 40-50m for Luiz. Then they managed to buy two players that will significantly improve them for something around 60m.

Costa may not be easy on the eye like other technical strikers but he can definitely score goals. He is a typical Mourinho striker for a Mourinho team. Cesc is the best creative central midfielder to play in PL after Scholes in his prime imo.

If things stay the way like this, These signings combined with Jose's record against top teams makes Chelsea the favorites for the tittle. Bar a long term injury to one of their key players I cant see anyone other than Chelsea winning the PL next seaso

A lot of people are rating the Barry transfer as a good deal because he was free, but you are mistaken.
Although he was out of contract, the deal Everton struck with City included a set transfer fee if they chose to sign him at the end of his season long loan; believed to be around £4m - £6m.
That said I still think he's a great signing for the toffees.

What is actually quite surprising is how many Arsenal fans rate Sagna so lowly as a signing, when only a few months ago many of you were convinced he was the best rightback in the Premier League x

as a Chelsea fan, i'm happy with calibre of players the club are bringing in, i can't help but feel we're leaving the squad very threadbare though

Costa was a necessary signing, frankly we haven't had a prolific strike since Drogba in the double winning season, even 11/12 he only really did produced the goods in the CL that season. it was our poor finishing and inability to put games to bed that cost us the title last time round

paradoxically though i think we've made a mistake dumping both Ba and Eto'o-if Costa doesn't produce the goods that leaves us with an unhappy Lukaku and Torres that takes us right back to square 1

and in defense-we clearly robbed PSG blind for Luiz, yet the only replacement we drafted in is a very young and raw 18 year old who's likely going to end up out on loan anyway. i'm still not convinced Cahill-Terry is a world class combination by any means. imo the Luiz money should have been re-invested in a player in the mould of Varane/Mangala/Benatia
