Ulloa

So Rob Tanner from the Mercury just tweeted that we have agreed a fee in excess of 7 Million for Ulloa and that he is set to discuss personal terms with Leicester having flown home from Brighton's pre season training camp.

What does everyone reckon? Personally I'm just glad Akinbyi will no longer be our record buy

I've not seen him play but I'd be happy with this because NP obviously wants him. If he thinks he's the man to get on the end of our crosses then so do I.

His record and goals look good too so why not?

And as was mentioned if McCormack is worth £11m then I wouldn't think the figure for Ulloa is too high and £7m is peanuts these days.

I think that now we are in the Prem, the cost of players goes out of the window and we're always going to be paying inflated transfer fees simply because we are now seen as a Prem club with a bit of money behind us.

Just been watching his goals from last season on Youtube. Difficult to judge how he'll do this season if he does come to us, because it's fair to say that he won't come across as many static/slow defenders in the Premier League as he did in the Championship, but he does look good in the air and if Albrighton can sling some decent crosses over, he might do pretty well for us.

I am with Miami on this. as usual the usual suspects will right him off before before he hits a ball and if he does not score in his first four matches he get the Vardy treatment.

Big, agile and able to score from crosses - sounds like everything we /want/ Chris Wood to be. He should also be able to help us defend corners too.

Normally I wouldn't be too happy about shelling out £7m on a player because I think we have a long, sad history of price tags like that putting new players under a lot of pressure. However, on this occasion I think there are several reasons that this isn't so much of a concern:

First, he's exactly the type of player we need to add to our squad. Prority 1, sorted.
Second, we've barely spent anything to bolster our squad so far, so there's plenty in the war chest.
Third, Pearson is notoriously cautious about big-money signings. He doesn't make many of them. There are no signs that he's about to do a Taylor or a Sven and throw it around all over the place just because he can. Instead, the signs are that this was a considered move, and a gamble worth the money. (I say a gamble in that all new signings are a gamble in one way or another.)
Fourth, as with many a Pearson signing, he's a player that the fans of his original club don't want to see leave.

So, all in all and despite the price tag, my initial reaction is that this is good business all round.

Great news.

A quality player and this is around the going rate for a decent striker moving to the Premiership. We were reported as making bids of at least this much for Long and Jelavic in the past so not surprised at the size of the offer.

My biggest worry is pretty well summed up by Nev. There were supporters trashing Vardy as "a complete waste of a million quid" before he'd even put the shirt on. And that was £1m. God knows what kind of frenzy £7m will induce.

Let's hope this lad pots a couple before the end of August and gets that monkey off his back before it's had time to make itself at home.

I havent always been Pearsons biggest supporter however he has certainly earnt the chance to bring in who he wants. Lets be honest he knows as well as we do he'll be out by Xmas if we are bottom and adrift so he has to buy wisely.

Personally I wouldnt want to spend any more than 7m on him but will back his judgement on this.

If Nige/Walshy think he's the right player I'm OK with this.

Remember also that although this will break the LCFC transfer record, the £5M spent on Akinbiyi was 14 years ago when there were much lower fees for strikers (eg Van Nistelrooy's £19M in 2001 was a record). So it could be argued that in relative terms £7M on Ulloa is less.

I think patience is the watchword for this season, but I would not be surprised to see calls for Pearson out if we have a bad start.
