He did play there a fair amount before his injury and I think he was better in that role than further up the pitch. It might not be a bad idea to give him a go there but if we do I think we should still buy someone for that position. Diaby cant be relied on which leaves Flamini and Arteta to challenge for the position. If Wilshere does get that role I think Arsenal should regularly breath test him for smoking to make sure hes serious about it.
I will be disappointed if our only signings are Sanchez and Debuchy are our only signings...or though I suppose you could count the players back from loan: Campbell, Djourou and Coquelin who are all showing in the squad on http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players

then rediscover his normal form in his best position before thinking about a brand new one.
i'd be surprised if wenger really is thinking of messing jack about like this. I call BS on this story.

He has played there before as I said and I think he was better there. If he can sit deeper in the holding position he may get away with a lower level of fitness as well which will work well with Ramsey who normally covers more ground than any other player.

That's where he played in his only full season and he won player of the year for us, he would work with Ramsey not all the time. If Diaby stayed fit then we wouldn't need any midfielders but him and Wilshere are both risks of getting injured

No he didn't play there before his injury. He played the Ramsey Role as the box to box MF player. Its was Song, Cesc and Wilshere as the MF 3.
