Didier Drogba

Good Morning everyone

I trust you are all well and are happy its Friday. Those of you who work weekends, ........Hi

So there is widespread reports that Drogba will be formally announced today, I for one will be very pleased to see him back home.
If he is to come back as a player coach its perfect, his enormous character in the dressing room will be a huge positive, particularly now we have lost other senior players this summer.

So what does this mean to our forward line.

lets look at the options

Costa - Bought in as the number 1, not tired or tested in the PL, 1 good season in terms of scoring in La liga and many see him as a risk.

Torres - Everyones favourite Spaniard, he is rumoured to be leaving for Monaco or Atleti

lukaku - Also Rumoured to be leaving, personally I have been sick to death with hearing him harp on about deserving CL football, has however scored goals in the Prem with both WBA and Everton.

Drogba - Deffo will be bought in as a back up to whoever we start with, the ultimate big game player in world football, could be a massive plus for us when the chips are down .

that's 4 strikers, I cant see us bringing anyone else in, so what it really depends on is how much involvement will Didier have with us. If its purely as a back up and a mentor to the squad then that could be our options next season.

However for me personally its will be to hard to juggle 3 strikers let alone 4 I can only see the reasoning behind Drogba coming in

If you want my theory, Lukaku will go, He has more value attached to him in terms of his player value and will be a lot less harder to move on. Torres no doubt would be messier, we would probably end up loaning him out paying half or all his wages until his contract run down, a bit like we did with Crespo, for me its not a good solution

what are your thoughts?

Costa, Lukaku, Drogba would make so much more sense to me.

Drogba could mentor and teach Lukaku which is probably what the scamp needs.

Not saying they are similar in style but its a well known fact that Lukaku idolises Drogba and has a good friendship with him so who better to learn from than the great man.

Still has the ability to hold the ball up, bring others into play, effective in pretty much every aerial battle and effective in the box with his head and feet.

Totally agree Kev.

Drogba will be able to come is a sub for 20-30 minutes when we need him and will be a more effective substitute than Torres could ever dream of being. Especially as Torres has a woeful goal record coming off the bench.

Regarding Lukaku being second choice, he would surely see it as a huge boost. Costa is untried in England and may struggle to begin with so chances are he will get his chance early in the season.

That's exactly how Lukaku should see it

True, although I hope Torres leaves the club this summer for his sake as much as anything else. He still is quite young and has the potential to be a big hit at another club. Back to Atleti would be the best choice.

Kev I've been saying the same thing about Torres for a while. A return to Atletico would rejuvenate his career and it really is in his best interest to leave on a football basis.

Its not a player coach role

Jose: "If I bring him back, the decision has to be made soon, it is because as a player he has qualities to make the team stronger. [Mail]

Jose: "If you bring him back it's not because he scored the most important goal in our history or because I read I need an assistant. [Mail]

Why not bring him back,he could greatly assist the whole squad all round, with his experience and general demeanour .On a reduced contract (of course )he would jump at the chance to come back to where his home and his heart is ,there are miles in the old Drog yet !

Madness, this club needs to move forwards not backwards.

Leave the club scoring the winning penno in the CL final, scoring 200 PL goals,

That;s the way you leave the PL, stupid to go back

Maybe bringing Drogba back was a brilliant ploy to encourage Torres to leave. I'm pretty sure Torres hated Drogba when he was here last time. Torres was bought as our first team striker, and ended up second fiddle to Drogba. He made it clear that in spite of winning a CL medal with Chelsea he didn't consider it his achievement. I can only imagine how he feels now that Drogba has been brought back! Does that make him 3rd choice striker?

The only reason Torres is still at Chelsea is because he is being paid so much, and no other team can afford his wages. Maybe this will be the final straw - and Torres would be prepared to reduce his wages in order to be a first team striker somewhere else. Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

My honest opinion is that Costa will be first team striker. Torres will start in the games that Costa does not. And Drogba will come on as a sub with 15-20 minutes to go in a few games. Lukaku will soil himself at the number of strikers ahead of him in line, and will leave (either on loan or permanently).
