I'm sorry to sound impatient but

After weeks of training and 3 friendly matches LVG now tells us we need more defenders. Surely he knew this before now and could have brought them in so they can get used to his system? I know we will sign defenders but what was the benefit of waiting ?

Also no mention about looking for midfielders. Maybe he is happy with what we have?

OP

What is the actual point of this article apart from presumably you thinking LVG is chit?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What a load of cobblers. Absolutely nothing like that in the article suggests the op thinks that. You can have critisism without thinking he's chit. You're suppose to like 50, how are you so thick?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's his point then you cretinous dk wad

He's having a go at van gaal for not signing CBS earlier
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He should of.

And he's saying he should of.

It doesn't mean he thinks he's chit, just that he's made an error.

There's a difference you moron.

Morning Stretty

I was obviously exaggerating you idiot but the OP was a dig at the new gaffer was it not? And a dig when he clearly has no facts to back up his dig

Oh

It's should have, not should of.

Moron

Have a nice day

How is it wrong? How can you say he couldn't sign players before assed the squad? We had already signed 2 by the time he joined us. Sorry but you are a div.
----------------------------

Well of course he COULD have signed some more defenders before he assessed the squad. It just wouldn't have been very sensible.

If you can't see that then you aren't too bright. We have already been over the Shaw and Herrera signings. Can't be bothered going over it again. In fact, we have been over it all several times and you still can't seem to grasp it, or refuse to admit you are wrong. Either way, bored of the whole thing now.

Macca - you new too reading ? Stretty was saying LVG had made the error on not signing players not me you tw5t. Not that it matters. LVG could have signed defenders by now had he wanted as he has already shown by buying shaw and Herrera. I think it is fair to question why we haven't strengthened the defence upto now given we clearly need to. And that is all I was doing.

Elvis - you again seem to be struggling with could and should. Maybe you should put you hand up and ask the teaching assitant for help. all I asked was why haven't we signed more defenders yet when it it is obvious we will need to. you claimed it wouldn't be sensible to sign defenders before assessing the squad despite the fact we have done exactly that with shaw. Shaw is a LB who will now be expected to play LWB. A bigger change in role than smalling Evans or jones or any new CB will face in the new system. If he can sign a LB to play LWB before seeing the squad he can sign a CB to play in a 3. To say it wouldn't be sensible to do so is very big headed of you.

-----------------------------

Shaw will be playing on the left side and expected to get up and down. Whether he plays LWB or LB isn't really that much different. The main difference being his starting position. Either way, with Evra and Buttner leaving, we didn't have an established LB. We were also obviously already a long way down making the Shaw signing and LVG was happy enough to rubber stamp it.

With the CB's, playing in a 3 is a bigger change in my opinion. First off all they have to get used to covering the space in behind the LB/RB. Or if the DM moves into that space, they have to decide whether to occupy the space that has been left/pick up a runner. Then they have to get used to pushing forwards into midfield when we have the ball to offer themselves as an option. Playing in a back 3 also means that you can work the angles a bit more as a CB, as there are still two two other CBs to cover. As a LB/LWB, all you tend to do is hug the touchline - the position just dictates where you start.

In order to decide which kind of CB he needs to sign, LVG has taken some time to assess the CBs that we already have at the club. He has had an opportunity to see which of our CBs can carry the ball out, who reads the game well, who is the fastest etc. Considering that Jones and Smalling have barely played CB over the last couple of years and LVG won't have seen much of them there, I think his approach is entirely sensible. I am glad that he has taken his time to assess the squad. If you think that it big headed of me then I am fine with that.

Elvis

There is a logic and rationale to garner from lvg's behaviour uptill now when you look at all the factors associated with his take over and which do make it easy to see why the herrera and shaw signings were sanctioned by him to proceed and why he would want to run the rule over the rest of his squad before PROCEEDING with other potential targets.
