Terrorist attack?

An incoming plane has been escorted into Manchester airport by a Royal Air Force jet because of fears a device may be on board.

Greater Manchester police said the RAF involvement came “as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board".

It is thought that the plane involved is a Qatar Airways Airbus A330 and that the military plane is a Typhoon from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

I think the less power bestowed upon individuals and small groups, the better.

If anyone can come up with a system that allows that then i'd hug them

i just think that all of this talk of taking wealth from the rich stems from jealousy. I am certain that 99.9% of those who advocate such measures would change their tune if they inherited a billion quid.

To be honest I think you're just extrapolating your own tendencies on to everyone else. I have a friend who hates football and believes that no-one else actually likes it, only watching it to conform to a male stereotype. Which is obviously b0llocks but he couldn't see fathom the idea that there are people who have different beliefs and thought processes to him.

And to clarify I never talked of taking wealth from the rich. I advocated that we need disincentives to the hoarding of wealth (maybe in the form of a tax on dormant assets beyond a certain threshold, say £1 bn), but I'm against taxing income as I believe encouraging the pursuit of income = entrepreneurship = jobs = growth = development and better living standards. Which is what we should be encouraging rather than people locking money in a dark hole somewhere. The only way to tackle unemployment is to create more jobs, it's not simply a case of people just being too lazy in life (although obviously this does exist), a lot of university graduates can't find a job because they don't exist. I'm a believer in creating more opportunities not taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor.

Psychology has a lot to do with it, yes.

Poor people are made to feel poor in more ways than their lack of money.

I just think that, when you look at the world and see millions starving to death while an elite few splash cash to excess.....something is wrong.

Tbh I was only advocating the starving people getting money. My plan wasnt for the benefit of myself but the millions out there who are starving and living in dirty conditionsno matter how hard they work. I wasnt advocating for people like myself.

Tbh not being materialistic I would like to think I would give the majority of a billion away... Why would I need such such insane amounts of money anyway?!

Melt I take being a red very seriously

If you taxed the rich it would only go to debt servicing and bombs.

raising taxes on the rich wouldn't help the poor one bit and even if you taxed them into oblivion it actually isn't that much money in the grand scheme of things.

Not necessarily, with an upturn in tax revenues there would likely be some small spending increases (not just on bombs)

The mega wealthy (which is what I have been refering to) make the most money (hence being the richest) so taxing them more would give you considerably more money than increasing tax on those earning 10k a year, as you can't really squeeze much more out of them anyway, an extra 10% would only be another grand.

An extra 10% on 100 million is an extra 10 million, you would need to raise taxes by 10% on 10,000 people earning 10,000k a year to achieve the same effect as taxing one person an extra 10% on 100 million.

That one person may be a small factor overall but it makes a huge difference in comparison to taxing the very poorest of society.

TBH I would probably raise the tax free income per annum allowed as well.
