Buy a facking striker!

What will it take for wenger to invest in a striker.

3 transfer windows and we have had players like park, bendtner, giroud and sanogo as our central strikers.

Forget this last minute dash for loan bargain, just spend the money on one.

Chelsea went out and bought Cesc and costa.

We still have not addressed our weaknesses.

Giroud isn't going to all of a sudden raise his level and become this fearsome striker

He can't improve his game and this is the level he will stay at.

No striker and it will be another top 4 battle.

Podolski is very average, Sanchez isn;t a striker and wasn't signed as one and Walcott has far too dodgy an injury record to be relied on

i'm not arguing Giroud's a world beatre, he's better than's gven credit for though especially as he;s been leading Arsenal's strik force alost single handedly since RVP left!

But would Wenger do it? It would require him to admit a mistake with Giroud.

Admit to making what mistake with Giroud?

Buying him to replace RVP. And it reflects equally poorly on Grimandi.

Keep in mind it took Denilson, Eboue own desire to move away rather than face continuous flack before Wenger pulled the trigger. A manager should never leave it so late that the crowd turns on the player.

That's a bit harsh we weren't free spending and for 10m you can't really argue. on such a tight budget with a wage cap of around 80,000 or something like that at the time we couldn't expect to buy anyone amazing. We could have risked signing a youngster that would turn into a player better than Giroud but that would be one hell of a risk as our starting striker. Fair point with him holding on to players too long that it becomes detrimental to the team.

I said it before. Ramsey was doing quite well replacing Denilson before his injury. So he was a known quantity and the only thing that was holding him back was his recovery after injury. There was too much hollywood stuff in trying to win the crowd and was almost digging a bigger hole for himself. He needed to recover away from the spotlight. It was stupid in trying to convince ppl that he was replacing Cesc. And thats where Wenger played him. In Cesc's position even though he was always a passing version of Gerrard. He has the same problem with Wilshere and possibly even Theo coming soon.

Thats not the same as ignoring the lack of development of certain players like Denilson, Eboue, Bendtner, Senderos, Djourou or not being ruthless when players didn't fit like Arshavin and Giroud. I was surprised that Wenger was so quick with Gervinho (for the better) but the constant ignoring of how poor Giroud has been for more than 15 months is baffling. Arteta is another one who has needed replacing for a while.

I have been and always be a big fan of Wenger but he has never convinced me he can build a league winning squad without David Dein's ruthless quick movement of players in and out.

And btw there have been better players available for the wages and fee Giroud cost incl the likes of Bony etc. Missing out on Veran and buying Giroud is a symptom of Wenger lack of quality buys from France in recent years.

Exactly J99. Giroud has never shown consistently that he can be a good player for us. Ramsey on the other hand had shown that and was replacing Denilson in the starting XI prior to injury.

Well said. I don't think bony is any better than Giroud though, it's quite hard to think of many players in the same price and wage bracket as Giroud who we have a decent chance of signing who is better than Giroud though. he has made some poor signings in recent years but when you consider the prices and competition i don't think he has done too badly at all. When signing these bargain basement players the reason they aren't over priced is because of the risk factor.

I understand your point on players. But Giroud was not 21 with potential. I suggested last September that Giroud was performing like a world class player but I suspected regression would come and it would be steep. There are few like Wright who develop at a late age. Wright was special because of his attitude. Giroud was more interesting in bedding his fame than acting in a professional manner. That should have been the end of Giroud and under Dein it would have been. Dein realized the hard way with Graham and Adams, Merson drinking culture that you can't let players get away with it. Ironically it was Wenger who changed that culture and now he is allowing players to break curfew with underwear models?

It was obvious Wenger realized his mistake with Giroud almost immediately as we were linked with Huntelaar the winter he signed. But then he dithered. And he is still dithering trying not to hurt giroud feeling by suggesting that Alexis was bought to play along with Giroud. Giroud is no Sturridge. So what was Wenger thinking? It the kind of makes fans doubt Wenger.
