Lost confidence in a result at Watford ?

... Just imagine how the players feel having been well beaten at home.
Is Hockaday the man to lift the players and get them believing ?

I don't think we'll get a result at Watford.

This team will struggle unless we get in some quality attacking midfielders/wingers. It's all well and good saying give them time, but Murphy and Tonge aren't suddenly going to become a bit better and a bit faster.

We need some pace and creativity in the team. If we can bring in a few players - proven quality who can go straight in like Billy Sharp and provide what's needed - then we the team will get a lot better and gel.

Cup more than half full. We'll probably beat them convincingly then lose or draw the next one. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows this season is going to be up and down like LIW's swearometer..!

We're in the process of changing the club from top to bottom, from side to side and from front to back. It does not all go off the rails with a loss. We've played four games this season, we've won two and we've lost two. The end of the world is not nigh.

Massimo Cellino has time to bring more players in and to get rid of others.

Fully agree with StefanoDee and 2020 - Work in progress.

What you also have to take into account is that Massimo Cellino has said he wants promotion in two years. He's put a time on it not us on here, he's the man in charge. He's the one buying the players for that task. I don't think he's panicking like some of our fellow posters, thank gawd!

If we get to a good position come January we might see another burst of transfer activity. As it is, I reckon he's got a few lined up and we'll settle down once they're all in.

Eric
Patience is a virtue.

I think Leeds fans have had around 10 years of that.

Couldn't agree more with you Eric, well said!

The team has had a pretty large overhaul with a total of 22 players in and out of the first team squad with more to come and go if reports are to be believed.

The job this transfer window is not done by any means, and even if it was, we're trying to play better football than we have in what seems like forever, and the squad as a whole needs time to gel, the fact is, is that with the right system of playing, you don't necessarily need quick players, good passing and movement can make up for that.

I'm happy to wait and see the window out and even beyond that - it'll take time for the players to settle. If there's no marked improvement by about mid-Oct, that's when Cellino's trigger finger is gonna get itchy on Doc Hock and I'd expect to see him gone by Nov.

Personally, i think he'll come good - I can see what he's trying and i approve. There'll be blips, but i mean it's not like Leicester, QPR or Burnley had flawless campaigns last season did they?

Hi toolbox, welcome if u are a long time reader u will know how we roll on this dysfunctional board.

U guys all make logical points, the amount of impatience and scaremongering going on is ridiculous!

Whilst I'll have to concede and say that The beast, the million dollar man and Tongue are just not doing itnfor our team. I'll also say that they are sandwiched between a better defense and a potentially damaging strike force.

Until we bench these midfielder a whom contributed heavily to us crawling to mid table, we will always get dominated. Murphy, has had a season to acclimatise, to a higher level and has shown his 1,000,000 quid price tag ONCE! He ain't a bad player, but he is in no way giving us million pound performances on a regular basis.

Rudy is the same, away from home he is invisible and at home he decides to write of every first half! Like Murphy he CAN do it! The way he destroyed Brim shows he can be a force, but he is frustratingly ...frustrating.

Tongue is a squad player...thas it.

Other than those 3, the bigger picture is great.

hey michael, reaaaaally long time reader, used to contribute to the old BBC 606 back in the day a little!

Judging from Boro and listening to Brighton last night, we're really Jekyll and Hyde-ing it at the moment, first half being utter carp with a bit of an improvement on the second half...could it be that Doc Hocks gruelling fitness regimes are helping the team stay fresher for longer, outlasting the opposition at times?

Makes me think we're a bit like Homer Simpson when he becomes a boxer, just let's the opponent punch the hell out of him until they get tired while he just absorbs it, then we knock them over with a simple tap - a bit like against Boro.

We do need to sort out the engine room, as i think with the signings we've made in Bellusci, Berardi and Cooper will help tighten our defence, and with players like Sharp, Ajose, Bianchi, Doukara and potentially Antenucci and Adryan we should be threatening a lot more, it's just the middle - to be honest I think our midfield is alright, it's just that Austin, Tonge and Murphy all smack to me like impact subs to freshen the midfield when past 65 minutes, not regular starters.

Need a tank of a ball-winning anchor, a couple of wingers, and a good box-to-box midfielder to help break up play when needed and to support the attack when called upon.

We'll see how the next week and a half go eh?

Formation is also key! This diamond is a joke! It requires at leat 3 players who can read the game and an number 10 who pulls it all together.

The players we have now are IMO best played in a 4231, 433 or a 451 v shape. Any other and we are squared pegging in round holes.

I agree that we've had ten years of woe, but nine years and eight months of that haven't been Massimo Cellino's fault. He's done more in this window than any for years. Time will tell if he's a success, but he's put up and got on with it, I think he deserves a bit more credit and the opportunity to come good.

We need to move away from the past trading and look at him in isolation. When you look at what he's done, don't you actually feel a little more confident you're going to be entertained..? I do.

All we need to do is get a winning mentality and I reckon we'll be rolling. He's openly said he's after more players, we'll not get anywhere near settled until he cannot bring any more in.

With the players we have at the moment, we'd be better playing 5-2-1-2,

Silvestri

3CB = Belusci, Cooper, Pearce

2 Wg Backs = Byram and C Taylor

2 CM: Austin and Murphy

1 AM: Bianchi

2 ST: Sharp and Poleon

With the players we currently have that is... if Adryan and Antenucci come in, swap them for Bianchi and Poleon respectively and swap Bianchi for Murphy in CM.

Not ideal, but having the 3 CBs would allow the wg backs to push on more, 2 CM to dictate play, an AM in a no.10 role to frustrate and occupy the defence, with 2 ST to put away opportunities, and for one of them to drop back a bit when needed to help in build up play.

I dunno, trying to do this and work at the same time, was easier when i was just reading you all...
