Poor transfer window from us.

Why can't people on here just say it as it is? Some comments/articles are just embarrassing to read.

We went into the transfer window knowing what needed to be done. We needed to sign a CF, DM, creative winger and a CB. We also needed to replace all outgoing players.

Now we did most of that, however we did not address the DM issue, we did not replace Vermealen either. That has left us incredibly short in defensive positions and incredibly weak in a position every big team targeted and exposed us in last season. Well not just last season but for years really.

Why can't people just admit that? It's a disgrace that a club of our stature is going into the season with TWO recognised senior center backs? I really like what I've seen from Chambers so far, he can POTENTIALLY nail down the CB position for the next 15 years. He is an excellent investment. But would anybody be confident he could successfully marshal the likes of Falcao, Costa, Aguero, Sturridge, even a wily veteran like Samuel Eto'o?

And what if he gets injured? Say now he gets injured and misses the Dortmund game, that means we've got Hector Bellerin at right back. Now the kid has potential and could well be the long term successor to Debuchy if all goes to plan but that is facking miles away. If we are able to take Jenkinson back from West Ham, we should seriously consider it, that's how bad the situation is.

Anyway, I'm ranting now. What I can't get my head around is how a club of our stature has gone like 10 transfer windows without addressing an obvious weakness in DM and can somehow go into a 50+ game season with 2 recognised senior center backs. It's a facking travesty.

Then, there's Welbeck. I would be lying if I said I rate him. I really don't. And if you ever told me he would be playing for a team I support any time of his career I would tell you I'm not a Spurs fan. But I really REALLY hope he succeeds here. I think he has taken an incredibly difficult decision to leave a club he loved, and grew up with to play for a team he probably grew up hating. The fact he would only come here on a permanent deal and not a loan shows that he wants to be here and is hungry to succeed. So I hope he does. I would love if he went back to haunt United. I also love how he has a premier league medal. And I love how he is better than Sanogo. Welbz is dat guy

I suppose you could think of it this way......are Hayden/Plezeguelo worse 4th choice CBs than Squillaci was?

We knew the Squid was terrible, at least the youngsters could potentially improve.

Not too much can be said about the DM position though. Was our most vital need and we bottled it.

Get Arteta on some performance enhancing drugs and see how long it takes for him to get caught. He can just retire when he does.

I keep forgetting we signed Ospina

We're well equipped in GK position now. Although i really liked Fabianski's attitude....there was always something dodgy in him.

Ospina was a real good signing, he was impressive in the world cup. He is an upgrade on fab imo.

Btw, Has anyone worked out if we were actually able to buy a foreign cb/dm. Had we reached our home grown quota etc or did getting another non english player rely on us getting rid of a homegrown player?

We have 8 HG players over 21 and 23 none home grown over 21 i think so we have space for 2 none HG players?

The debate is whether Franny C is homegrown or not. The squads have to be submitted today I think, so we should find out pretty soon.

Regarding the defence I 100% agree, is an absolute farce.

However, as much as Welbeck wasn't the marquee signing we wanted, let's give him some game time before making a call on that one.

Yea would be very unfair to write him off. I will give him a fair chance, hope he repays the faith shown in him by Arsene. £17M is a lot of money for us.
