A man has been charged after a raid on a computer nerve centre suspected by police of streaming Premier League football matches and other sports.
Officers from a crack police unit swooped on a property in Cheetham Hill on Monday, as reported in the M.E.N., and found an ‘industrial-scale’ bank of computers and hi-tech equipment which is suspected of supporting scores of illegal streaming sites.
The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), a specialist department of the City of London Police, said the set-up included a dozen computer servers streaming sports events from across the globe.
Zain Parvez, 27, of Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester, has been charged with four offences.
They include an offence under the Copyright Design and Patents Act 1988, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud and possessing or controlling an article for use in fraud.
He appeared before Manchester magistrates court and was remanded in custody until September 16, when he is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court.
Illegal sports streaming websites are estimated to cost the television industry more than £10m a year.

Streaming - Good or Bad?

Agree on the comment about the packages, rather than having to pay for collections you should be able to choose your channels individually. Out of the 900 plus channels on Virgin Media I probably only view 30 of them regularly at a push, some channels not even viewed once. If you could purchase them in this way you wouldn't have to flick through endless dross to find something to watch.

The TV industry can afford the loss.
Why aren't the police investigating REAL crimes instead of making people "investigate it yourself" !!

When I was living in Germany would love watching Saturday's 3pm Kickoff games. They call it the Conferenz channel (like a conference). So basically with one presenter (not seen but heard like radio) he tell you where you are going. Basiclly like Soccer Saturday with the goal and shouts of audio but you would see it live. So no pundits just 1 presenter and a tv director showing you live games. So whenever something hapoend at the 6 plus games they would take you there with the commentator at the ground showing you a reply and the fallout. Fantastic for the neutral. Always though that would work well here with Premier League games.

My guess is that the guy they arrested was paid to babysit the set up, while the person behind it and raking in all the advertising money keeps his hands clean.
There'l be another distribution hub up and running within a couple of hours

I investigated myself on suspicion of watching the spúds game on an illegal stream last week but strangely enough I found myself giving myself the silent treatment when questioned.
I'm thinking of taking myself into a locked room and using a bit of phyical persuasion.
Fúck me, I just walked into a door.....

Like someone mentioned. They aren't really losing 10m. The people who stream wouldn't have bought a subscription anyway.

Don't agree with that. If we had the choice to subscribe legally or crappy streams illegally I would go with the legal option. I only stream as I cant subscribe and Im sure lots of others do as well.

Exactly. Also, with the Sky Bundesliga package, they now show every game on the 10+ dedicated channels (1st and 2nd divisions). I haven't heard anything about the dramatic drop in attendances that we are always told would happen in the UK if the games were all televised.
