FA to restrict non EU imports

After England's dismal showing at the World Cup the FA have decided that putting restrictions on PL clubs importing talent is the way to go.

The proposed changes are a little complex but could mean a reduction by 50% of non EU players coming to our shores. They include:

Restricting GBE visa applications to Premier League clubs only. Currently Football League clubs can also apply and in the past four years 23 applications from Football League clubs have been successful.

Preventing players brought to Britain through the GBE visa system from being loaned out to other club.
Reducing the list of countries from which players can apply for GBE visas based on international playing record, from the current 70 top FIFA ranked countries to the top 50.

Easing – from 75% to 30% – the percentage of competitive international matches that players from countries with FIFA ranking in the top 30 must have played in the past two years.
Introducing a transfer fee exemption to deliver GBE for elite players from any country, irrespective of FIFA ranking, if the transfer fee exceeds a minimum indexed figure, initially proposed to be £10m or £15m.

Scaling back the appeals system so that clubs may only appeal on the basis of incorrect process. In the past appeal tribunals have been required to make subjective judgments on playing ability, which has resulted in nearly 80% of all appeals being successful after failing to meet the initial criteria.

What restrictions do Germany and Spain have? Do you know what Germany did? They sorted out their grassroots football. Stopped allowing the press to pick the team, got a quality manager and a good group of youngsters and developed them through to the national team.

Good coaching again. Same with Spain and France. Do some research into how many coaches in the UK have their badges compared with these countries and the type of football they play which is focused on technical ability not size and playing his heart out.

There were restrictions, we won nothing. Now no restrictions, we have won nothing.

The problem is coaching. Of course ban the foreign imports, we still will won nothing until we sort out our coaching

So building grassroots football like Germany, France, Holland and Belgium is not the answer.

Do your research

I've already agreed we need to improve coaching, that's obvious to be fair. Germany and Spain also have B teams in lower leagues.. coaching is good but you can't beat experience.

Why the hell don't we just actually promote British coaches to make British players come through at the same level as their European counterparts.

So ridiculous.

It's like a country restricting imports on a good because theirs are crap compared to those abroad rather than just improving their good!

You can't make do with just one or two goods to trade though. The markets vary - you need decent quality goods in every sector, so the consumer has a choice to best suit their needs.

Of course you should always be looking to improve your produce, and keep your borders open to the best quality imports. Sub standard imports with no testing or restrictions simply floods the market with cheap crap. No-one wants that.
