A bit off topic but still about our activities away from the first team.

I'm here because my club in the US, Greater Lowell United FC, officially joined Wolves North American Academy today. We are excited beyond belief by this opportunity.

I'm director of marketing for the club. We're based in Lowell, Massachusetts, an old industrial town that's now coming out of a very long period of decline and becoming a bit of a destination. Our top team plays in the National Premier Soccer League, a nationwide league and the fourth tier of the US Soccer system. (Unfortunately, we don't have promotion and relegation in the US ... yet.) We also have a reserve team in a local league.

We're now building a youth program, and this is where Wolves will really come in to help us. Your North American Academy will run camps for us to scout local kids and will also help us build our youth program. With your club as a partner, we'll be able to offer something nobody else here can offer, a direct link to a big English club (or any foreign club, for that matter). This is unbelievably massive for us. We plan on co-branding with Wolves on pretty much everything we do.

We're just finishing our first season of operation now as our reserve games wind down. The NPSL team had a rough first season, but we expected that. The league is a professional league, but not all teams pay their players. We don't pay ours. We do, however, play teams that do, including the MLS New York Red Bulls under-23 side, which won the entire national league (about 90 clubs) this past season. We've built a much better side and have acquired better coaching since the NPSL season ended, and we expect to improve greatly next season.

By way of full confession (and I know you'll hate me for this), one of our co-owners and I are West Ham. Our other co-owner is Benfica and played for the reserves there briefly in the early '90s. We have directors, coaches and players from all over the world. We even tolerate a Tottenham supporter on our board. I lived in Europe (France and Holland) for five years myself and have been a football fan since early childhood and the days of the old North American Soccer League.

But we're all Wolves supporters now! We're beyond thrilled to be in partnership with your club. We promise to be excellent representatives for you in North America and send over as many quality Yank players as we can. I hope to see you at the Molineux someday soon.

Good excuse to go to see Greater Lowell United. Love Boston and even more so Cape Cod. Recommend that part of the world to anyone

They've got the Wolves logo big and proud on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GLUFC2013

This is big news, these links are important in creating a global brand, we are a long way from the Man U's of this world but we have to start somewhere.

I have always argued the need improving our infrastructure this is just another benefit

If America ever took football seriously they would certainly be a force to be reckoned with, who knows maybe a few quality players might come from this

I agree with you, Amiga.

However, the best way of creating a global brand is to be in the Premier League and to stay there. Games are shown all over the World.

Kids throughout the World are seen in Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and other shirts because they want to emulate the players that they see every week on tv.

How great it would be to travel to the far-flung corners of Africa and see kids wearing a Wolves' top with Sako's name on the back.
If he was playing for one of the Sky 6, he would be a role model to thousands. Sadly, because he is playing for a Championship club, very few Africans will know of him.

They have good links in Kansas as well.

Some kind of youth set up, I guess a few didn't forget the team in the 70s playing here for a bit.

Don't disagree with that Cyp, but to compete with the man u's etc is an almost impossible task without major funding.

we have to be far more proactive in promoting Wolves which this is.
