Cellino tax evasion ruling

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/24/massimo-cellino-leeds-reign-threat-tax-evasion-ruling

Massimo Cellino’s reign as Leeds United owner is under serious threat after an Italian judge ruled he set up a “bogus corporate screen" as part of a “Machiavellian simulation" deliberately to evade paying import tax on a yacht in 2012.

“There can therefore be no doubt as to the existence of an elusive intent on the part of [Cellino], as it must be held that the evasion of the import VAT was the result of a Machiavellian simulation, put in place by the aforementioned [Cellino], in order to disguise a definitive admission [of the yacht] as a temporary admission."

So much for it just being 'an oversight'.

You've continually posted anything you class as dirt on Cellino, you've never stopped........you naughty hypercritical boy you.

You probably stayed up all night scowering the internet for the ruling, it always seems funny that most of time you're the one finding these things and posting'em.

Luvr, the Guardian ran with the story yesterday, I posted it on here, no scouring involved.

The vast majority of Leeds United fans are behind Cellino. We're used to having a siege mentality for a variety of reasons.

That support will be galvanised should the FL decide to pursue Cellino. There is an air of optimism at ER that we've not seen for some time, long may it continue.

I'll ask a question but I don't expect a reply.....

"If you want the ride to be a bit more balanced, you have to ask Mr Cellino to stop putting his foot in it."

Exactly how has Mr Cellino put his foot in it since taking charge of Leeds United?

Jonty,we are seeing some good results since MC came.On and off the field.Do you think that a little bit of dirt is going to dampen the spirits of the fans that see the positives MC has made.He is here to stay, the FL will just have to get used to it....And he will make LUFC a better club in my opinion.

I might be off the mark here but looking at the time lines I wonder?

Guardian states the ruling was written in July?

Official ruling due to be published October?

Could this mean that the judge passes the ruling to Cellino's lawyers, three months before it's due to be made public, so that they have time to read it and contest any of the content?

Meanwhile someone leaks the original to the guardian - who publish it because it's a good story - yet might end up with egg on their face when the ruling is made public.

It also gives a period of three months to get the bribes/horses heads sorted 😀

Kev, you are completely missing the point if you think this issue is about dampening spirits, it's about the ownership and future of the club.

Stoopo, I think that's pretty much what's happened. The reasoning has been documented and relevant parties i.e. Cellino get a grace period to access the reasonings before publication.

Jonty - that's what I thought. It could be why no other papers have picked up on this.

The playing side is on an upward trend and new signings are starting to perform well.

I am somewhat amazed that some posters here have the attitude of "as long as we are winning on the pitch, I don't care about anything else."

I thought we had learned from the Ridsdale years. Some were posting about the bad signs emerging about Bates a year or two into his reign and today I don't see one poster writing anything positive about either of them.

Whether we like the FL or not, there is likely consensus that none of us do, there are elements of Cellino that serve as winning signs that all may not be good for Leeds United in the long run.

A lot of shooting the messengers on this thread and others

Let's hope it all blows over and we can just focus on the footy going forward.

For me, I am hoping for auto promotion or a playoff final with me at Wembley celebrating in May.

JLA - if I thought Cellino was bad news I'd be saying so. He seems to know what he's doing with regards to on and off field matters. International taxation matters are complex, I don't know if he deliberately sought to avoid payment or otherwise although I could hazard an educated guess.....

I'm close to those at Birmingham City, they have an owner incarcerated for money laundering. I don't see Birmingham City being taken to task for what is clearly a more serious matter.

With regards to shooting messengers, if said messengers bought in articles of a positive & negative nature in equal measure, I'm sure that there would be no shooting......

Stefano, my posting was not aimed at anyone in particular. However, if one were to read some of the comments above, one would see "as long as we are winning on the field, I don't really care what the owner is about or doing."

As far as Birmingham City goes, my distant recollection is that an owner was forced to seel up some time ago, but I don't really follow them so perhaps I am mistaken. I agree the FL is a joke, has been for many decades, but appointing Harvey was a real doosy as they like to say over here. Then to compound it and even appear to have him involved in the Leeds United situation is diabolical, to be euphemistic.

Shoot the messenger if you choose to but it does not change the message or the situation we may be in, just saying...
