Calum Chambers

When his acquisition was announced a lot was said about the 16 million fee with add ones! We were even wummed by City fans which was weird. The main issue was the number of appearances he had made at top flight level but Arsene and his scouting team had seen enough to be convinced to pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

With Lovren going to Liverpool there was that real possibility of him becoming a starter and that would add another 10 million to his fee at the end of this season.

Having watched him play that kid is going to be a class player! The talent is unquestionable, esp with the ball at his feet, already ahead of the likes of Jones and Smalling who look clumsy with the ball but both are young defenders who I rate a lot.

But the big thing for me about Chambers is his confidence! He seems unfazed, totally! We have had talented players who simply would freeze when they play on the big stage(Fabianski come to mind) but this kid belongs!

He will make the odd mistake but it won't get him down! Try and imagine the number of errors Kos made when he first started for us. Sadly he is not an athlete and not blessed with too much pace but as long as u play him alongside an athlete like Kos he will excell.

I thought he had a very good game against Spurs! I'm not sure we would want him playing in different positions as it could stunt his development like Phil Jones but this kid has it all.

Been the best of our new signings so far. Going up against a player like Alexis, that's saying somthing. Outstanding defender with an absolute iron mentality, hope it's not just form/flash in the pan. He has played superbly wherever played, I don't think he would be as good at dm but could be worth a try

Smalling and Jones look clumsy with the ball

Good one

Calum is capable of playing DM and I compare him to Busquet pace wise, tall, technically gifted and has agression required at top level but Wenger will ruin him by playing him all over the place, I hope he becomes DM rather than CB, we need to buy CB.

But it's true! I'm not knocking them at all as Jobes is pretty decent on the ball, that's why he has played as a DM! Smalling is very clumsy in possession, seems so hurried but has other strengths in his game, esp positionally and in the air!

I also like the looks of John Stones! Quality young centerbacks! Looks so comfortable! Was named man of the match at Anfield!

Jones is very comfortable on the ball, more so than Smalling.

Smalling is so uncomfortable on the ball that he's been asked to play fullback, right?

There are a lot of myths flying around about those 2. They are both very comfortable on the ball.

Chambers has looked good for Arsenal from what I've seen.

Looks very composed on the ball as well.

I wouldn't say Smalling and Jones are clumsy on the ball, though they can be, but they do look awkward on the ball - probably a better description.

very happy with chambers so far. impressed at both RB and CB but jones at Blackburn looked very god also. Man utd being moved around constanty is what held him back so hopefully it won't affect chambers in the same way.

also slightly off topic but i was very impressed with southhamptons Matt Targett in the c.o.c last week. if Nacho leaves in the summer we should target him as his replacement. can eventually overtake gibbs

for his age his amazing. he reminds me of the talents of Garath Bale.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When Bale first moved to spurs they never seemed to win whenever he played. He was a young pacy fullback who was very good going forward.

sounds alot like Hector who has also never won a game with us yet

While it's true that to an extent being moved around has held Jones back being injured all the time is just as big a problem for him.

If Chambers stays fit it he may not suffer like Jones has.

Been compared with Busquets, and then Gareth Bale. What on earth is the matter with some of you guys? Just observe his development and hope for the best. No need adding such lofty ambitions that may never be realized.
