I cannot believe we continue to play with this system. To be fair, Redfern did well with it, but I don't like it.

Players run into each other and you need two amazing full backs who can bomb up and down.

Antunecci and Doukara are both good signings but fit into the old fashioned number 10... The target man.

We lack pace out wide allowing runs and some freedom running into the box.

I would sacrifice a striker and a midfielder and look to get two specialist wingers in the mix. Easier Said than done and we may have to wait, but this formation doesn't suit us.

Silvestri

Byram Bellusci Pearce Warnock

Cook Bianchi
Winger Adryan Winger

Antunecci

Would be my team. I woukd have gone for Burke.

Weallloveleeds - this makes sense to me, but I'm no expert or indeed am only here to cause trouble and argue on a public forum

I've not watched Cagliari play so difficult to contradict and equally what you say makes sense.

However, whilst we lack natural width we do possess players who can play out wide.

Doukara, Antenucci and Montenegro all come with experience of playing on the flanks albeit not their favoured role. Within the midfield we've got players who can go wide and then you have Byram & White who have experience of same.

My view is that the team has been persevering with this formation from the off, potentially because of a lack of width, and we need an element of consistency to progress. Coaches introducing different formations whilst still looking for the best XI aren't going to last long here.....

Whoever we play out wide it will be a case of 'square pegs in round holes'.

I do agree that coaches coming in will be fearful of the sack and so will use a formation previously used to try and get instant success (I think that's what you're getting at Stefano) rather than try their own thing. Or maybe it's Cellinos formation.

But I can't help but think that with so many managers using it (and Redfern was actually sucsessful) that it's the best option right now

Weall, you're first comment domes it up i.e. it's what Cellino knows and Bean alluded to this type of mentality in his comments about Cellino trying to run Leeds as if it were Cagliari.

It's natural to revert to what you know.

If we get the quality of players in and the longevity of manager then it could work, but will we get either of those things?

Watford were successful a couple of seasons back with a lot of foreign players because they brought good quality ones over and gave the manager time.

The alternative is to look at what is effective here in the Championship and try to adopt that.

I feel sorry for Milanic. None of his players, under pressure after just 4 games is a disgrace and he has no wingers. If he gets sacked, how was it his fault? Its Cellino's team ........

Shaun, I tend to not feel sorry for them because they take the job of their own volition.

Cellino has a reputation, surely they know what they are letting themselves in for, yet they let themselves in for it all the same.

No one stuck a gun to Milanic's head and said leave your job and come and work for Cellino, it was his choice.

Shaun, Cellino learns from his mistakes he and Salerno are learning about the UK game and I'm sure we shall soon see a new tactical approach.

Jonty s comment re Watford is a really pertinent point there is a precedent for the Italian model but it didn't work now they be mixed it up a bit & hey presto who's top of the div, some great insight here into how the Italian league works & explains to me why we are where we are at the minute. Pretty passing & a strike duo that cannot score goals will not get us into play offs. Stats show most not all mind good championship strikers are British so that leaves us a bit short unless we can get Sharpe & Morrison to step up like to see at least one of em start tonight good discussion though.

Madeley's Magnolia

I agree with you re Watford, and in that I also agree with Jonty.

What I would say is this, they progressed to where they are now, from where they were a couple of years or so ago. You're looking at a development over a period really of about three / four years.

Our main problem was being held back by Ken Bates and his policies on the field. We have gone from him through GFH to where we are now. Now we have a football man in command, he has said we're looking for promotion in two seasons yet and he has brought in youth to assist in this.

Hindsight is wonderful in respect of how Watford have done. I hope we'll be similarly glowing about Leeds in a couple of seasons. At the moment I think we're still in transition, Massimo Cellino has only been in charge a few months. I think he deserves a bit more time as owner.

I disagree with your point about Sharp and Morison, neither are good enough IMO. I would stick with Doukara and Antenucci.
