Paying for the sins of the past.

Liverpool are in a poor state. Well relatively speaking to where we want to be.

Why?

Cos we bought Balotelli?

Here's my view

In summer 2012: Brendan Rodgers had a bit of a disaster with andy carroll and failed to get a striker and ended up with suarez on his own trying to play with a very young sterling and borini. He bought joe allen

Skip forward to Jan 2013: Rodgers pulled off a coup and got coutinho and sturrdige who improved the first team hugely but the damage that year was done

Now: summer 2013: Rodgers buys younger players and the god awful aspas, the aged toure and the inconsistent and injured Sahko. we oaned in two players to fill gaps who were useless too.

next Jan 2014: we buy no-one.

Finally Summer 2014: we buy more younger players, more expensive one but still young and add lovern, lallana and balotelli... plus lambert.

It is my theory now that just perhaps LAST year rodgers failed to improve us and while we had a great year off the back of suarez and sturridge the conveyor belt of senior players was broken

For example those calling for us to play joe allen want him cos he's the best of a bad lot but he is busy and played well last year when not injured.

We are looking at the buys this summer struggling to settle in and getting dogs abuse. Lovern is a big brave lad who'd run through a wall. Lallana is a busy player too, lightweight though. Balotelli is a muppet... fine thats a disaster many could see happening,

BUT LFC are maybe suffering excuse we failed for two full windows to add talent to the first 11. Perhaps in 12 months time can, markovic, origi, moreno, manquillo, ilori and alberto might all improve us but not TODAY.

Today is being affected by failures 12 months ago. If LFC added a striker or a CM 12 months ago perhaps we'd be better now. This then leads me to firmly believe that enough is enough of buying young lads as priority, we simply must buy a quality first 11 player in January. And ideally up front, we cannot afford to stand still at best while young lads develop. After all this is what arsenal did for 8 years.. those young lads move on just as much as stay. Arsenal now buy players like sanchez and ozil etc.

not what i'm saying

IF you guys feel aspas was good quality or cissohko or moses... fair enough!

If we got 3 good first team players in summer 2013 i'd be wondering if we'd be looking so poor this season.. thats all.

Other sides keep adding first team talent, we've a pool who could come good next year.

So we swap the moses aspas money, for 3 top players?

This is all well and good in hindsight. Aspas was scoring for fun in pre season. We had Sturridge and Suarez and Borini, I don't think there were too many saying we needed another striker at that time, nobody would have foreseen that Sturridge would be out injured so long and Aspas would be so crap.

Likewise we had good cover in midfield at the time considering we weren't in Europe. I always said we were one defensive midfielder short and that problem still remains, however,

Yeah, were so bad, but still sit 5th in the table behind west ham and Southampton who, with all due respect, aren't going to sustain their runs.

Yeah, we haven't been great in the market, but were not as bad as some people want to think. And were now writing ball off completely after less than 10 games are we?

Sturridge has struggled with niggling injuries his whole career, and Aspas never really looked like a top player
