Meltdown they said...

Asset stripping they said, relegation they said, sold all our best players and replaced them on the cheap they said...

Well a big middle finger up to everyone in the media who wrote us off. What an inspired appointment Koemam was as well, love the man, his style of play and his interviews. We now sit second after nearly 1/4 of the season gone to a Chelsea side who are probably up there with the best in Europe this year.

Yes I know it's early days, and I don't believe for a minute we'll be anywhere near 2nd come May. But what a season it has been so far proving many pundits and fans (myself included) so very wrong. I for one, am going to keep enjoying the ride

Up the Saints!

Honestly well played you guys

Robbie Savage looks like even more of a twaat than before after he predicted you lot for relegation.

I said at the start of the season that Southampton had brought really well and would be nowhere near as bad as people were making out.

While I understand your anger at the media, a lot of the Saints fans also expected something like that after the summer sales.

Cheers for comments lads, think it's refreshing to see clubs like us and West Ham up there even at this early stage.

To the Hudds fan cheers and likewise had a soft spot since that year, good banter on old 606 as well. I was glad when you did go up as felt sorry for you that year - most other years you would of gone up. It was only us going on a crazy run winning sonething like 14/16 to pip you. Great memories from that year

The problem for Saints fans now must be the fear that your money men see the last two seasons and think it is a repeatable process.
The likes of Tadic and Mane, not forgetting Schneiderlain, Clyne, Ward Prowse etc, will be very much on the radars of bigger teams if they keep their form over a sustained period. And what Southampton have done over the summer is hard to repeat.

I agree that you can't do it every year. I think we will sell 1/2 every summer and try to replace. I think (hope) the board realises that if you do what we did this summer every year then one year it will backfire and that could mean relegation. The PL is an unforgiving place if you're not one of the 'elite' clubs.

I do think though if we can sell academy products or ypung players we have improved at inflated prices while not making the team go backwards then it could keep us ahead of similar sized clubs in terms of FFP.

Either way I am enjoying the ride for now and you never know if we can have a good season this year, we may be able to persuade players to give one more seaspn like we did with Schneiderlin. I accept that we'll always have to sell the likes of Shaw Lallana Tadic etc. To the big boys. It hurts less that way and I jyst enjoy seeing them in the red & white while I can

Man utd will try to do Southampton a favour. Imagine if Southampton won the league, they have played at a high level for last 2 years. Everyone will expect Sothampton not to finish in top 4 but I am starting to think you will be very close come May.
