Positives

I can put forward some positives from the news today if anyone wants cheering up. I can think of quite a few already. Just say the word and I will roll them out on to this thread. There are 2 sides to every story.

Yes, come on Otep. Cheer us up and make another pitch for doing the job yourself. Getting rid of hoof ball and signing Messi sounds good to me if your are looking for an assistant!

We have lost seven out of ten so lets not delude ourselves that we are going to stroll to promotion. But by the same measure, the last two and a bit years have been immeasurably better than we dared imagine when GR was put in charge after that woeful winter of season 3.

So a huge pat on the back for the Birmingham (bound) Four. Who knows, we could well see them next year for a proper send off.

So who next? Just heard the Radio Derby match day commentator make such make a passionate case for Michael Johnson that I reckon he must be his agent!

Never managed before, and students of the game will be well aware of Mr Johnson's view as to why this is. But then neither had Nigel or Gary managed before and they are undoubtedly our most successful bosses of the last 30 years.

Sounds like there is a lot of interest so lets look to the chairman to get it right again.

Good attitude Otep. For lower league teams like us you have to accept these situations and hope that in some way something good comes out of them.

In your place I'd be hoping for a young manager with enthusiasm rather than the cynicism you are likely to get with a journeyman. My team took chances on Ardiles ( best football we ever played) Hoddle (second best) Macari (not great to watch but with a Division 4 points record of 102 no one was too worried). Then of course there was Dave Mackay (still reviled for selling Don Rogers) and the lunatic Di Canio ( got us up but financially ruined along the way).

I think in the end you give someone a chance and hope for the best.

End of stream of consciousness.

I dont think i am going down the road of positives and negatives,as you all know i didnt want Gaz when he got the job and a few on here were of the same opinion.

If you asked any football fan if they wanted entertaining football and relegation in the same season or hoof ball and ugly football and end up top of the league i know the answer.

Attendances i admit have gone down as have alot of clubs but that has been down to folk having to tighten there belts due to government cuts etc.

Gaz has gone and in my opinion did well for us under tight restraints,ok some of the football was basic stuff but gentlemen you have to work with what you can afford and use it to the best effect.

No knives in the back from me Gaz thanks for your hard work and all the best for the future.

Here's another for you. Name the best 11 players (and 3 substitutes) to wear the yellow jersey since joining the league. The formation has to be 4-4-2. This is mine;

1. Legzdins (P)
2. Boertin (P)
3. O'Connor (R)
4. Bell (R)
5. Stanton (P)
6. Parkes (P)
7. Penn (P)
8. Collins (P)
9. Zola (P)
10. Maghoma (P)
11. Ismail (R)

Subs

12. Kee (P)
13. Winnall (P)
14. Malone (P)

P = players Pesch brought to the club. R = players Rowett brought to the club.

Pesch totally lost his way in the end and I was one of those calling for him to be sacked and rightly so. However, he could choose some good players. He probably wasn't cut out to be a football manager. Maybe he was naive or not tactically astute or a good motivator. I got the impression his enthusiasm had gone towards the end. It wore him down.

Rowett was obviously very dedicated, committed and probably more tactically astute. He knew how to win games of football.

The both brought good players in and they both brought rubbish players in. Pesch probably brought the better players in. Rowett got the best out of players. Rowett could get a team to gel.

You probably want a manager somewhere between the two.

I look back quite fondly on that 5-6 home defeat to Cheltenham these days.

I am grateful to everything that Gary Rowett has done for the club. Very grateful. A play off semi-final and a day out at Wembley. Superb. The club is much better than when he took over and has got stronger each year. You can't ask for much more.

My favourite GR game was that play-off semi-final at Valley Parade in May 2013 when we won 3-2.

Yes he needs to carry on his role as a house husband ,not get us relegated within twelve months .

Re the best 11 + 3.

I'd change three quarters of the defence. I'm happier with Sharps, Cansdell-Sheriff and McCrory than Stanton, Parkes and Boertien and I think the GA column will support me here.

Early days, but I think Moose has the potential to displace Russ Penn and I would start Kee ahead of Collins,

I'd find a place on the bench for super-sub Matt Paterson alongside Malone and I'd give Shaun Harrad the nod over Winnall.

The three defensive changes would tip the balance from Pesch to Rowett.

And before we 'big up' Pesch's talent spotting too far, let's not forget Richard Jackson, Darren Moore, Guy Branston, Shane Redmond, Richard Walker, shall I go on?

Prodigal son? Not for me.

Hold on brewer1. Don't come onto this board using that kind of language against someone who has opinions that don't fit with your own. We have discussions on here not arguements. There is a difference.
Judging by the comments youve made on here in the past you seem to like trolling and seem a bit of a grade A. I would like to politely say to you now jog on back to wherever and leave us all to discuss things like adults.
Thank you.
