Biggest Premier League Star?

'Big club’ debates rage continuously between rival fanbases, but who are the ‘biggest’ players?

After some deliberation, it seems clear to me that the biggest star in the PL is either Wayne Rooney or Mesut Özil.

Here’s the tale of the tape - PL rank in parentheses

Wayne Rooney

Age - 29

Nicknames - Shrek, The White Pelé

Facebook Fans - 25.1m (2)

Endorsements - $5m (2)

Career Highlights: 5-time PL Champion, 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 2-time England Player of the Year

Mesut Özil

Age - 26

Nicknames - The Raven, The Jewel in the Crown (self proclaimed)

Twitter Followers - 8.2m (2)

Facebook Fans - 26.6m (1)

Endorsements - $6m (1)

Career Highlights: World Cup winner, 1 La Liga, 1 Copa del Rey, 1 FA Cup, 1 Euro U-21 title, 3-time Germany Player of the Year

Should someone else be in contention? Robin Van Persie, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard? Give me your opinions.

Whenever I go abroad, Rooney seems to be most well known but Aguero isn't far behind

If we are talking about being known then Gerrard is your man. Everybody knows slippy G right?

I'm not sure Aguero is that big outside of the UK & South America. He only has 8.6m Facebook fans and he's played for 3rd tier teams in terms of global popularity - Atletico & City (City are arguably 2nd tier now).

Biggest Premier League star should be Phil Dowd.He is amazing even when he doesn't play.

Moyes must be pretty famous now but in future he will be the most known man in football for being the guy who urinated all over the once great empire Fergie had built.
