I have stated clearly I think this guy is our 'Gattuso-type' character that we need in every game.
I'm interested to get a view from those who watched the game.
Did he perform well? By perform I mean did he tackle and protect the back four. I'm not bothered if he played a beautiful pass or assisted. Thats not his job in my opinion.
Poch needs to tell each individual player what their main role is. Players are given too much freedom to think at our club. In reality most of them are too thick to multi-task.
You tackle
You take on your full back at every opportunity. one on one
You win headers
You protect the back four
You mark their striker
You pass to our striker at every opportunity
You stay in the box and wait for the opportunity
simple commands for simple players.

We don't need a workhorse. At least not in the first XI. Buy a passing CM and partner him with Capoue

I actually disagree, We definitely need a workhorse. No one at the club does the 'dark arts' every top team in history has one tough tackling player who's technical skills may not be great but he wins the ball for his team mates.

Lol that's unbelievably incorrect, very rarely does a top team have a player in midfield who isn't good technically. Until January we should play Dembele

Even when you look at all the teams in the Champions league that fans like you pine over.
Name me the DM tackler in the following teams. They all have one but I bet you either don't rate them or can't name them.
(Barca, Real and Bayern are leagues ahead of anyone else and three teams do not make up european football)

You are doing the exact same thing with players like Stambouli because they aren't in the press everyday you dismiss their value to a teams strategy.

Fair enough, but don't say I told you so If a midfield of Demele, Mason and Capoue fail to impress at Villa. I hope they don't but. But I can't remember the last time our midfield 'pivots' or DMs actually bossed a game.
