Cleverly vs Bellew 2 Preds Fight thread

Decent card,how it made it to pay per view i have no idea nonetheless there are some good fights on show here particularly the main event and the de gale/periban fight.

Predictions:

Cleverly vs Bellew

To say there has been no love lost between these two would be the understatement of the century.The animosity has boiled over and both fighters will want to settle this once and for all on Saturday night in liverpool.

In one corner we have the home town hero Tony Bellew bolstering a record of 22-2 with his two losses coming to the man he will be facing tomorrow night and adonis stevenson. Bellew possesses good power and at cruiserweight that power could tell.He has had stamina problems but at cruiserweight those problems may have been put to bed. Bellew is certainly the more natural at the cruiserweight mark and his power and durability at this weight will be a factor if he is to beat cleverly. In terms of his record it is a mediocre one to be fair. The best fighter he fought was stevenson and he got beat convincingly so he is a solid fighter but just not on that elite level.

In the other corner we have the Welshmen Nathan Cleverly.Holding a record of 28-1 cleverly has been in with some good fighters including his opponent who he beat in there first encounter.Now in regards to that,i thought he beat bellew despite bellews objections but i do not think that first fight will have any effect on there rematch because at cruiserweight cleverly is an unknown quantity. In terms of boxing skill cleverly is most definitely the superior fighter,he has good footwork,decent speed and although he doesn't have KO power he can wear down opponents with his technical style and engine.Cleverly also has a solid chin despite being absolutely pummelled by kovalev and to me that will be the big question has cleverly recovered from that fight and much like his foe,cleverly failed against the elite which showcases how far off he is when it comes to the big boys.

Another aspect to take in is stylistically cleverly causes problems for bellew all day long.Yes bellew is the bigger puncher but you can't hit what you can't see and cleverlys speed and skill will always cause a fighter like bellew problems. Whether they fight at LHW or CW those style problems still exist and that is why i am favouring a cleverly win by UD. For bellew to win he has to come forward and start landing leather as soon as the first bell rings because the longer this fight goes the tougher it will get for him.Cleverly can win this fight by not engaging bellew in toe to toe exchanges and just look to out box and frustrate his opponent.If cleverly has let all this trash talk from bellew get under his skin then it could be nights out for him because bellew will be head hunting on saturday night. I also have to say despite the apprehensions that some have had regarding cleverly at cruiser,he looks in terrific shape from the weigh ins.

De gale vs Periban

Fight of the night in terms of quality for me.I like de gale and i think he has what it takes to make the step up to world champion level.This fight will show IF he can make that step because periban has been in with some high level fighters and this will be a tough fight for him.

De Gale win via Unanimous decision.
