Silver.

Nah mate - usual a correct hypothesis but not this time.

He was a genuine fan of the Greenock mob.

His whole family had season tickets - very unusual then as most folk paid at the door.

For obvious reasons he couldn't be at most games.

Those were simpler times when the whole nation KO'd at 3 on a Sat.

He was usually at his work then.

Rip Arthur - a great commentator

As a young boy I stood in the jungle every home game and on the way in you would look to see which tv van was parked outside to see if you could watch the highlights on sat night (Sportscene) or on Sunday afternoon (scotsport). The tv gantry was slap bang in the middle of the jungle and the camera crew and commentator would have to walk along a plank above the heads in the jungle to their spot. When Arthur walked along the jungle would sing 'one Archie McPherson, there's only one Archie McPherson' and vice versu when Archie walked above our heads we would sing one Arthur montford both always had a wee chuckle and gave us a wave

foddy.

Shared memories there.

Archie was of course a total Hunnite.

He took the abuse on good spirit tho.

He got the better of us one home game.

Before the pubs were open all day he dangled a half bottle of Whisky at the end of a bit of string over our heads at half time.

All the nutters baying and jumping up.

Archie kept his swally.

We pumped the Hearts 2-0 tho.

RIP Arthur, a true gent and another part of recent Scottish history gone...

...and that's Martin Buchan on the overlap...and there's a bird on the park with a broken wing....classic commentary.
