Celtic 1 Salzburg 3

Gordon - made a good save but felt he could have been more commanding, his kicking is attrocious.

Matthews - shadow of the player he was, needs game time to regain confidence and form, him and lustig were neck and neck before, he can get it back. last night he got better as the game went on.

Dijk - played reasonably well, still far too casual in europe for my liking, never a sprint or a slide tackle.

Ambrose - guy behind me was giving him it stinking, everything was efes fault, but I thought he did alright tbh. made a lot of interceptions, pressed high up the park but tried a couple to dodgy cross field passes, the one thing I will say is he tried to be creative because he had to, the midfield, particularly mulgrew werent dropping deep enough to get the ball.

Izzy - got an assist but his crossing is absolutely woeful, poor defensively and didn’t do enough going forward for me.

Brown - chased down, pressed and worked hard.

Mulgrew - I honestly don’t know what he brings, he doesn’t attack and he doesn’t win tackles, doesn’t drop deep to collect from the defence to stop ambrose having to push forward. I honestly don’t know what he is meant to offer. won headers, that’s about it.

Johansen - took his goal well, didn’t give there back line peace, some poor passing and touches but worked hard

Macgregor - pi.sh, done nothing, needs rested or played in his proper position.

stokes - worked hard, tracked back, but just isnt good enough for this level, an honest performance but we need better. set pieces are dreadful.

Griffiths - thought he looked better on the wing than through the middle, worked his socks off but another who I think isnt good enough for that level.

subs -

Tonev - he actually looked pretty sharp and decent when he came on, was impressed

commons - I don’t think he had a touch

forrest - tried but lacked sharpness, that will come with games.

I think 3-1 flattered red bull tbh, after the first 20 minutes I was dreading the rest, but we came into it after that and tbh I think a draw would have been fairer, need to create more chances on goal and that’s where the attack lets us down, midfield need to press higher as well.

Salzburg are the level we want to be at, shut down teams quick, have fast attacking players, we have too many slow and workmanlike players in our team just now, need more runners and more creative players.

on our defence, punt VVD in jan and sort something with denayer for next year, are we keeping him on another year or not, if not get defenders in and get them settled for next year, I'm fed up going into the qualifiers with guys who have walked in the door and don’t know the names of their team mates.
