I was just looking at some stats and was suprised to see how pontings and dravids averages fell considerably over a period of 4-5 years. Ponting and Dravid both started in 1996 and till 2006, they were averaging 58 and 59 respectively. Now over the next 5 years from 2006 boths average has gone to 53. Their career isnt even that long compared to tendulkar's. Now this clearly proves that the longer you play cricket for, the harder it is for you to keep with such a high average/standards. People who keep on saying that if ponting or brian lara or another great batsman for instance played the same number of years as tendulkar did, they would have better averages and more runs are clearly wrong. Learn to respect a legend of the game. The 100th ton is coming soon and no one in the world cricket will ever break this record as it is there to stay.

sorry shanky, in that case james taylor qualifies as the first one......Raina is in bad form, but dont forget he is one of the main reasons india won the wc..... You cant say that of any of your england players that you won a wc.or can you????

Raina is not in bad form. Hes just not test class.. hes the same as Hughes for Australia.. they both have issues on the back foot. Untill he gets a front foot game and plays straight he will never make it..

I didnt that the WC has changed its format from one day to Test Cricket.
Know It All
Comparing Hughes to Raina is a joke.In his second Test Hughes smashed Steyn,Morkel and Ntini all over the park on a fast seaming Durban track scoring centuries in each innings. He was only 20 then
I doubt Raina even in the wildest of his dreams would ever be able to play half as good a knock.
Look at their respective Test records before comparing.Hughes is daylight ahead.

Am Raina as a test centuary too? as for being a joke. They both have same issues OK??I was not comparing them on ability but on technique. As for being daylight ahead?? who says so? They both looked rubbish when England bolwed at em..

I heard some say that if Tendulker got his 100th 100 this tour, the Indians would ignore their abysmal series and focus only on him.
I heard someone else say that the Indians are in awe of a few individuals at the expense of the team.
Looks like the OP has proved both these statements right.

I think Flavour Flav once said:
'Don't don't don't believe the hype.'
Essentially what the OP has said is, 'As long as SRT gets the record, we don't need to worry about the results of the tests.'
Well, he didn't, and you do.

It is greatly to England's advantage that India supporters worship the older players rather than get rid of them.
I believe Tendulkar to be one of the greats. I saw him as a youngster and there was always the feeling that he could, with youth on his side, have the staying power to make India great for many years. But his time is nearing the end.
Sure, you can say that others powered India too, but they are also getting long in the tooth. But for as long as all you want is his record, India will remain weak. Where is the competition for places?

the Bradman debate will roll on.
========================
What debate ?
Tendulkar is a great player but Bradman is a class apart - to compare the 2 is silly - and I say that through gritted teeth as I'm english...
